    Spraying ground for fly control

Have some bait stations out. Seem to help. I was thinking of maybe making up 50-100 gallons of a permetherin spray and sprayng the whole property. We are feeding the calves with a plan to sell them this fall when people are looking for stockers to run on winter wheat assuming we get rain.

    Spraying ground for fly control

We have 15 calves on 5 acres. Pretty much a dry lot with this drought. We have lots of flies not so much biting flies bothering the calves but tons of house flies bothering my neighbors. I am trying to figure out a good way to reduce the numbers and was thinking of spraying the entire 5 acres. I...

    Investing at feedlot

I understand there is risk. I am ok with that. Certainly don't want to set out to lose money but I understand there is risk involved in any investment. I think with the bank you are guaranteed to lose. 1982vett you have it right that you will get your money back and some interest but the...

    Investing at feedlot

We are considering buying a pen of cattle to feed at feedlot. Anyone ever done this? Looking at having feedlot buy 100 head using their buyer and feed them out. They are showing us projections of cost of gain and return based on various feed and cattle prices. Does not look like there is fortune...

    Bulk feeding equipment.

I don't know if I am feeding enough to justify it or not but we are feeding about 200 lbs a day. I have always just bought in 50lb bags by the ton. Seems if I bought it bulk it would be a lot cheaper? I have never really been around bulk feeding so I am not sure how the logistics work. If I buy...

I tried to post a you tube link to it but it did not work. You can search on you tube for hay hopper and find it.

    round bale feeder

I have read through several threads here on round bale feeders. Seems to get discussed a lot. I even read the research study someone posted on ring vs skirted ring, vs cone vs cradle and it looked like the cone came out on top.In doing a google search I came across one that I have not seen...

    how much water space needed?

I have a 100 gallon trough with an automatic float. I check it every day as it is just out my back door. It is up against a fence as that is the only way the hose will reach and it helps protect the float and hose. Anyway I only have seen 2 maybe 3 drink at a time from this. Is this sufficient...

Which welder - Lincoln vs. Hobart

I would probably just pick the lincoln "tombstone" . They are good machines. I used one as my primary machine for over 15 years. Still works great but my dad has it in his shop now and I have a Miller AC/DC 220V and a Miller AC/DC engine driven machine. If you are just dinking around AC will...

    Making money / Business plan?

Thanks for the reply. I don't have a mentor or anyone to come help or else I probably would not be asking for help on here. I do agree that would be best though. Also as I said this is just a hobby so it is a little harder to try and get someone to come help out with a hobby. I am not looking...

    Making money / Business plan?

First of all I have a full time job and am not looking to necessarily make any money with cattle. I know with my limited acreage it is not feasable. I have cattle because I enjoy it and it is a hobby but it would be nice if I could at least make it pay for itself. I have the room to run about...

    chute and corral rail spacing

I searched and found many threads and links to pages with designs for working facilites. What I have not found is much info on spacing for the fences. I am building everything with 2 3/8 oilfield pipe. In the chute I have the vertical posts spaced 6' and they are 8' in the corral. I ran the...

    advice on a cheap chute

I have a very small operation. More of a hobby than anything. 7 acres and 5 head. My dad who is retired and nearing seventy recently attended AI school to help my relatives in another state with their commerical ranch. He is thinking of doing AI on a part time basis for hobby farmers in the my...
