Basically a 30-30 on 223 brass.
Same wine in a different bottle to satisfy some stupid state laws about straight wall cartridges.
I prefer the 30-30 it's all you need if you know how to hunt.
I bought it as a bad weather rifle on a whim.
I have taken deer and hogs with it.

So a 350 isnt as strong as a 30-30? Or am i thinking wrong about the case size?

The 30-30 would be much superior with a 308 Speer pointed boat tail bullet. The same 150 grain bullet would be 300 fps faster.
The 150 grain cracker box bullet is faster than the 350 150 grain by 75-100 fps.

For far out varmits I use my .17 bee hand loaded with nozler bullets. Ain't fired the darn thang in 12 yrs tho. Slow burn'n powder, 4895 fully stoked would push the bullet close to 4kfps. I miss that hand loading daze:) My buddy used the 223 and the 22/250 loved them both

Back when I had my FFL I sold a match pair of Savage axis.223's to a father and son. They never had any complaints. Took them prairie dog hunting.

I think @TCRanch shoots one.

I'm totally a Remington700 junky. I have a short barreled 700 bolt action tactical in .223 that stays in the truck or the side by side.
Great little gun. Just a little heavy though.

Yup. Mine is a bolt action Ruger.

That's what my son and I shoot. We each have a Remington 700 sps tactical in 308. It's in my top 3 favorite guns.

Can you put a suppressor on yours? We can’t in IL.

I have a Savage Axis in 22-250. It is my coyote rifle. I have no complaints on it. Accurate, darn sure kills coyote. My hunting rifles are all 3 Ruger 77's the old ones with top tag safety. They are in 7x57, a 30-06, and a 300 Win Mag. I have killed a lot of deer and elk with those 3 rifles. I also have some other rifles all of which I have used to shoot some game but those 3 Rugers are my go to guns.

My partner uses a 22-250 on everything in this part of the world.
Amazing how effective it is for hogs.
Speed or mass kills, it’s definitely got speed!

That is one thing about the 350 it’s “quiet “ for a big caliber.

I wish it was legal to make a suppressor without all the paperwork. I just can't get behind buying something for way too much money when I can make it in my garage.

With the price of the black guns right now I would get one of those and a 10 round magazine if you don't want it to look evil. They are semi auto plenty of accessories and all of mine are as accurate as I am. PSA has deals and they will get better since the scare is not there to take them. They are just regular guns. I have an AR pistol kit on order right now to build with a lower I have.

I feel like most straight wall calibers are quite for their size.

@Brute 23 - I've got a 24 inch sps in 308 that I have had since I was in college. Love that thing. Too heavy to lug around for sure.

I use an older 223 colt AR here around the farm or kwep in the truck sometimes. Iron sights w carry handle.

@Caustic Burno - That 350 is a real nice looking piece. I hadn't heard of that round. I'm intrigued.

I’ve got the stainless model 77 in 30-06. Best gun in the safe!

I'm very well pleased with mine.
I have Ruger No1 in 243 and it kills like lightning bolts from Zeus.
If you get a 243 make sure it's 1/9 or 1/10 twist good for 85 to 100 grain bullets.

I shoot several calibers but a 243 in my opinion is not only a great starter gun for anyone, it is probably the best for Texas white tails. Accurate as can be and deadly. Probably not for muleys or elk but much better than a 223. My 2 cents.

I have a cousin that hunted muleys with the 243 for years with no issues. He got an elk one year with it as well, but it is a little light for elk. I would have loved to get ahold of my grandfathers 284 Winchester; that was a great shooting rifle, and he was deadly accurate with it. I don't think it would of mattered what he shot, nothing ever got away on him.

I was binge watching a show on YouTube this fall about game wardens in Montana. I was surprised how many hunters they talked to that use 270, and 243’s for elk.
Makes a 12ga slug seem like total overkill for whitetail in Illinois.

I grew up shooting a 243 and a 30-30. I occasionally would play with my dad's 264 Mag. I went back to the 243. It wasn't until I started getting invited to some places to hunt with a guy I work for that I bought the 308 because they required a 270 or larger caliber.

When I go hunting now both go with me so I have a back up.

I get people at the ranch all the time the spends small fortunes on guns and love to talk about them. I always break out my 243 and 30-30 kills with cheap ammo to keep it real. I always tell them... I'm not agaisnt owning a bunch of guns but I'm not going to fall fie the marketing hype.

The only thing I will stand by is, when shooting pigs, if you shoot a 100gr or larger bullet, it will increase you odds of DRT kills. The 80gr bullets and stuff are just not forgiving and there are very few time where a pig is standing perfect in excellent light. I use to hunt for farmers and get paid for dead pigs so we wanted DRT shots. Bullets less than 100gr required more follow up shots on hogs.
