Unreal just a few years ago what some of these guns went for compared to today. I have some old Shotgun News magazines if I knew what I know now I would have bought a few crates of SKS s for $69-$79 a piece in a crate. Here is a paratrooper edition I got way less than what they cost today.

Just got out one of my old Shotgun News Magazines from 1995 and copied this. If I had a few extra dollars then I would have got a lot of these as I had an FFl and just a phone call away. From looking through these magazines about makes me sick looking at the prices. These SKS s were milled and had threaded barrels. I noticed nice M1 Garands for $400 and M-14 for $599.

One of my all time favorite stores. Loved Gibson’s.

My buddy used to bring that to the job. Seems like I remember you could get an SKS with a chrome lined barrel for ~$139 in the late 90’s

I bought three of the Romanian built AK s when they were less $300. Mine shoots good action wise but maybe can hit a plate at 50 yards as not real accurate.

Good ole days! I was born in '69 so I remember seeing it as a kid. Not so much in my high school years, but there were a few.

We looked at a 223 rifle at Rural King this morning.
I believe the brand was Savage, had a scope already on it for a little under $450
We thought the plastic stock was maybe a little light.
Is anybody familiar with that brand?
We've been needing to get another rifle for several years.
Wife wants to know if those have much kick to them? We both shoot.
I been telling her maybe we should just get one of those bad ol ar 15's.

I've got a .308 model Savage and I don't love it. They do have more recoil than other brands. The bolt never smoothes out either. That may just be the model I have, but there are other options out there around the same price that are more pleasant to shoot. I'm am a smaller stature woman, so maybe my experience will be helpful to your wife. I also have an AR, and have fired a good many. They are MUCH more pleasant at the range. Far less recoil (for the most part). For the price, I'd go with a S&W M&P Sport II. They just came out with a sport III, so the sport II's are on sale. She'd likely enjoy firing that much more than a Savage. I'm not expert, just a collector of loud hole punchers.

Gibson's was good. Kinda like a giant Dollar Store at times depending which town you were in. My father liked buying his pickup truck tires at 'Gibbys' for some reason.
