We looked at a 223 rifle at Rural King this morning.
I believe the brand was Savage, had a scope already on it for a little under $450
We thought the plastic stock was maybe a little light.
Is anybody familiar with that brand?
We’ve been needing to get another rifle for several years.
Wife wants to know if those have much kick to them? We both shoot.
I been telling her maybe we should just get one of those bad ol ar 15’s.

I have a Savage model 110 bolt action in .223 wood stock and .270 in synthetic stock. I love both of them. They are cheaper than the big names like Browning or Remington, but the barrels are high quality and have very good accuracy. If you get a combo from a place like Dicks, the scopes are usually average/mediocre and you may want to eventually change them out. There isn't much kick to the 223. My kids would shout it at the range without complaints. The .270 is comfortable to shoot when deer hunting, much less abusive on your shoulder than a 12 gage. I've been told by people to avoid the Axis model from Savage because of trigger adjustability, but I don't have any personal experience with it

I had a 250 bolt action Savage my mother hunted deer with in the forties. My favorite gun of all time. It was the first rifle to break the 3000 fps barrier. I just recently passed the rifle down to my son.
Of course times change and manufacturers get cheap, so I have no idea what the current company is producing. I really don't like the plastic stocks on anything.

Forgot to mention I own an early 2000's Savage model 110 in 270 win, it was my first deer rifle. It has a synthetic stock, but a great gun and good shooter. Loves Remington Core Lokt's.

Savage was about to go under in the 90's and the new CEO took over and cut all the product lines down to just the bolt actions and said they were going to make them cost competitive and make them right. They also came out with the accu trigger that everyone loved for the adjustability of without a trip to the gun smith.

My 110 is pre accutrigger. I do a a B22 22 LR with a wood stock that is a fun shooter too.

I have a Ruger American sitting by the front door and a CVA by the back door in 223.
Both are for varmit, both very accurate.
I have 223 with more firepower in the safe.
You never get more than one shot here in this thicket.

Ruger American is supposed to be a very good rifle for the money.

I think I would like to have one in .243 win one day.

I’m very well pleased with mine.
I have Ruger No1 in 243 and it kills like lightning bolts from Zeus.
If you get a 243 make sure it’s 1/9 or 1/10 twist good for 85 to 100 grain bullets.

Back when I had my FFL I sold a match pair of Savage axis.223’s to a father and son. They never had any complaints. Took them prairie dog hunting.

I think @TCRanch shoots one.

I’m totally a Remington700 junky. I have a short barreled 700 bolt action tactical in .223 that stays in the truck or the side by side.
Great little gun. Just a little heavy though.

That's what my son and I shoot. We each have a Remington 700 sps tactical in 308. It's in my top 3 favorite guns.

How do you compare it with the 30-30 or 35 Remington?
Basically a 30-30 on 223 brass.
Same wine in a different bottle to satisfy some stupid state laws about straight wall cartridges.
I prefer the 30-30 it's all you need if you know how to hunt.
I bought it as a bad weather rifle on a whim.
I have taken deer and hogs with it.
