Since we performance test our bulls and sell most of them through the test sale, we look for bulls with proven performance. That's the start of the search for a satisfactory bull. Bull sales are also a good place to talk to other breeders about the bulls they're using and I pay a lot of attention to which bulls certain breeders are using; less attention to others. I liked the old Angus bull Scotch Cap, the first carcass bull, good mommas, some frame. Pierre (GDAR Rito 596LT), wonderful udders, good fleshing, moderate framed. EXT was the first bull that I saw dominate bull testing stations across the US. He was remarkable. We used him for his sons, but I think he'll be remembered for his daughters, wonderful udders, stong maternal traits, adequate muscling, fertile. Today we're using some younger bulls. TC Foreman doesn't have the accuracies that I like yet, but I have seen several sons both on test. Buyers seem to like him, too. And we jumped on the New Level bandwagon. Though I haven't seen any sons on test, he comes from a long line of performance tested animals, plus he's a New Deisgn 036 grandson. And we're still using 036, 602C, and EXT.
