Can you tell if it is the vista or the dell causing the problems? :lol2:
I think it is a combination of both . My daughter has a gateway laptop with XP on it and she loves it.

I finally picked out the setup that I wanted, called Dell to order it. Told the salesman I would take one if they would put XP on it instead of Vista. Said the package price was only good if Vista was installed, would cost a lot more if we got XP. "So it's going to cost me more to get yesterday's technology?" I said. After he mumbled around for a minute or so I hung up.

Vista is like everything else in the world when it's new. I don't have any problems at all with it. We got 2 machines runing it.

The above links have some information regarding the XP to Vista move. The dates are rather old on some of the articles, but the last link is today's date.

I think some of those comments on the blogs have to be taken with a block of salt instead of a grain.

With the refurbs, by the time I added a monitor and comparable equiptment, they were about the same $ as a new "package deal". Plus just about all of them came with Vista.

I've got both XP on desk top and nothing but trouble, and Vista on the new laptops and love it never have any trouble, can always get onto the internet, fast it is almost instant, am hoping to upgrade desktop to vista, I've got the whole package on vista, microsoft office, photo, etc and have had no trouble, you can use your old disks on vista but not the other way around it just takes a little long to load, as vista is faster than 98, millenium and XP. I loaded a 98 chess game for my Husband on vista and it plays better than it did on the old 98 windows we had. I am all for vista. Both vista laptops work on the wireless system better than the XP does. JMO but would never go back to XP.

I started out with windows 3.1. Every time a new windows came out I didn't wan't it ,because I didn't know anything about it. But always once I had it I liked it better than the other. Now I will stay with windows XP until I have to have Vista. But will probably learn to like it once I have it.

Just like the Cattle Today at first didn't like it now its fine with me.

New laptop came with Vista. I expected a smooth running piece of equipment able to handle some very simple tasks.

I struggled with it for 6 weeks and couldn't upload to maintain several critical websites.
The screen would freeze and the restart would take 20 minutes.
I was constantly in contact with Microsoft trying to "patch" the problems.

Surprisingly, Vista wasn't compatable with alot of simple programs I use, and the more I "patched" the worse things got.

I finally paid to have Vista removed from the laptop and XP installed.

No more problems.

Getting a Mac next time.
