Why is his EPD negative but good?

His Calving ease is a negative 5 but it says he is a leader in his breed. What am I missing in the other information. I know he has the lowest birthweight of all the black brangus on this website. Positive was supposed to be better in calving ease.

Because it's a typo. Look at the Brangus associaiton site, his CED is 11.

Correct - you can see the same number listed as his BW, which would typically raise a flag - which it did in your case. Good eye.

Are you looking to breed him to heifers?

I was thinking about it. I used a black angus with comparable epd's on heifers I ai'd the first time. Thought about using brangus this time. All of my heifers are black brangus that are breedable. Not really liking the mix of angus brangus so much. Takes away too much ear and naval. I wasnt going to AI because I had bad luck before but I just have a couple of heifers to do so I am considering it.

Talking to the Genetrust guys is an option. Just tell them you're looking for commercial semen to use on heifers. They usually have some they sell commercially and it would save you a few dollars. Most of their inventory is in Wheelock, which is just a few minutes from CS.
