Wht is a Private Treaty sale.

Can someone explain to me what a Private Treaty cattle sale is and how it differs from someone who puts a "for sale" sign up in his pasture or list them in the local newspaper or on CL ?

All it is is a sale at home, you price it, someone comes in and buys it. It is not an auction. So basically the same as a for sale sign.

Here I thought it was a treaty that was made when there were no officers present to sign so it got signed by some private. Making it not worth the paper it was written on. But when you think of it the ones signed by generals aren't worth the paper they are written on.
