Whats the price gonna be?

It has been nearly 3 weeks since the last sale because of the holidays. The last one they were $1.68 to $1.40. I know cows from that sale go to Canada. I know cows from there go to Schank Pack north of Seattle. I also know Schank buys a lot of cows out of Canada.

How does that work? Are there BCS for Holstein steers? I could see that, but they'd have to be 1, 2, 3 maybe and not any higher unless they have their own scale. Do they sell them young, or weaning age/7 months, or finished? Or all ages/conditions?
You are confusing BCS and cattle grading. In BCS the lower the number the thinner. In graded cattle it is opposite the #1s will be the thickest a #3 much less. It is supposed to correlate with muscling and frame size. Age is factored in as well. Generally a #2 will sell the highest here especially with feeder calves because a lot of #1 calves are a little fleshy. #2 calves tend to be the harder heavy muscle calves. Holsteins are graded the same way but obviously the standard is not the same as a straight beef breed.

You bring up a good point. It looks good until you start figuring expenses for the coming year.
