I want to plant a legume in my pasture but am undecided if I should plant alfalfa or clover. We receive 20 inches of precip a year mainly from October to mid June. During the summer we get less than one inch. I have mainly orchard with a little bit of tall fescue. I cut the pasture for hay in mid June and then let it regrow for pasture. I don't know whether the clover would regrow as dry as it is in the summer. I have a neighbor that gets 4 cutting of alfalfa and he's 1/4 mile from me, but in lower ground.

Any help appreciated.

The clover is a lot more forgiving than the alfalfa is. Least that is the way it works for me. I can ruin a seeding of alfalfa quicker than a cow will dump in a clean stock trailer.
