What to do?

In Texas the laws are a lot different in what actions you can take in the day and night to stop the threat. The key words are stop the treat you must feel you or someone else is in imminent danger. You have a man and woman in a city park and he appears to be assualting her you shoot the man you go to jail, you just murdered her husband, man and wife like kinky sex. A CHL carries a lot of responsibilty with it you had better know the law.

Dang, boys and girls, I was only kidding - I do NOT suggest you use a shot gun.

How about those bungy sticks the VC used??

You should have cleaned the place up and got some finger prints? I would have left a few rusty nails sticking up to step on.

Set up a shotgun to go off when the door is opened?????

a few years ago a man broke in my cousin's house...my cousin woke up...went downstairs and the guy actually started trying to fight him...my cousin got his gun and shot the man...he got charged with murder even though the guy broke in his house AND tried to fight him...they said if the intruder doesn't have a weapon, that you can prove he was trying to use on you...then there is no case and my cousin got charged

so that aint much of an idea unless you want to be charged with murder

Florida just changed our law. Someone comes in your home uninvited you can shoot them. Too many home invasions going on down here with all the drug attic's.

This doesn't mean you can invite your X in and then shoot her. They will investigate to make sure there was no hanky panky going on.

I dont think they will do anything to you for killing someone that breaks into your home. Here about a year ago i read in the knoxville news sentinel about this guy and he shot this guy that had broken into his house. Apparently he surprised the intruder who tried to run out of the house. The guy fired his 12 gauge shotgun hitting him in the kidneys and killing him dead on the mans kitchen floor. The man was not charged with murder. In fact the cops said no charges were to be filed in the case. It was a felony b&e. I think in tennessee if you are coming to the defense of yourself or others or someone breaks into your home and you shoot them its self defense. Im pretty sure that is how the law works here. I will ask my attorney just to see but i believe that is the case.

Tennessee law clearly states, that if an intruder enters your home, and you feel that you're in imminent danger, meaning that you could lose your life due to this persons presence, deadly force can be used.

I feel that if a person has the balls to break into a Man's home, he has the balls to hurt the man on the other side of the door. With the Meth problems we have here in the country, I believe I'd shoot and let the D.A. sort through things later.

As I'm remembering in one of my CJ courses, loe hose many years ago, the same imminent danger law applies in Texas. However, no way on earth would that apply to a shotgun rigged to go off when the door was opened by an intruder.

For some reason I'm thinking there was a case in Arlington, TX where a group of kids, maybe like 10-12 years old, decided to break into a house they thought was unoccupied. The owner had rigged that same shotgun device. A little boy was killed. The owner was indicted and convicted of negligent homicide.

I think the key to all of this is the imminent danger part. If he's running the other way the danger has obviously passed.

But I wouldn't hesitate to launch a 30 round clip loose over his head to help him with acceleration.

What part of the country is this in? I think it sounds like meth heads to me looking for stuff to sell and just getting high and messing stuff up. You need a deer blind. Have your wife drop you and a friend or two off and y'all go up there and spend the night and wait for them. Then let them have it with the bird shot when they come around. Get their plate numbers. Take some pictures. Go to the local authorities with proof of who it is. This is either kids with nothing better to do or meth heads looking for stuff to sell and a place to hang out. I doubt it is a vendetta. I bet, too that if you started hanging out there more they wouldn't come around. Especially if you were unprecdictable.

You need a $100 junk car, a garage-sale lamp and TV, and an outlet timer. Put the junk car in the driveway, and put the lamp and TV on timers. When it starts to get dark, have the TV and lamp come on. A nice finishing touch would be a "SOLD" sign in the yard.

I doubt these fools have balls enough to pull in when there's a TV on, a car in the driveway, and evidence that the property has changed hands.

And a beware of dog sign. If all that doesn't work I'd add a few pitbulls staked out around the house.

Uh, I can send Bubba up there to watch over your place as soon as I can get him relieved from yank watch on I-95.

Gee thanks guys. There are a few really original ideas
that I hadn't thought of. I especially like the gas can
idea and the junk car in the driveway thought. We had
thought of getting rid of a few worthless appliances
via this route. A non-working TV and a floor cleaner that
smokes, etc. It would save taking them to the dump.

However, I contacted a realtor yesterday and he thinks
he can get our money back on this property. I will take
that and be delighted to be out of this deal. Incidentally,
this place is located in Morgan county, Tennessee.
Sorry, you Tennessee guys. We always seem to be
getting a bad rap. I'll let you know if we get shed of
the place. It just needs someone who will be there to
protect it. Thanks again.

Do this country a faver and try to catch them. It ain't sold yet so lock it up and stake it out. Bad gas may help the police catch them in the side of the road a few miles down. Mark all your stuff so that it can be IDed.

To me this seems like the MO of meth makers. In this area they will try and terrorize people to keep them away from their meth lab. I would check the rest of the property out as well as any close by adjoining property out for signs of a meth lab. If you find it call the 1-800 number of the Tennessee Meth Task Force and they will stake it out and arrest the perps. This is what I had to do when I found one in an old house that is on my property. Group was busted and is in jail for a long time due to other arrest records.

this is were i would take some vacation time off. hide my truck and wait and be counting the minutes.. would'nt think of killing the feller just load his a$$ with rock salt and he better hope my ol 12 gauge pump jams ;-)

My former boss used the sugar/gas combination to stop gas thieves at his farm. While he didn't catch them directly, he saw the tracks in the snow where the car had gelled up and than been towed. Don't think he ever had problems with thieves after that. We too, like most rural areas, have a huge meth problem. My brothers are loggers, and twice have had their equipment trailers stolen.

Seems like a trailcam would be the ideal solution if anyone can figure how to mount it where it couldn't be stolen also.

You know, at first thought booby traps or shooting them seems like a reasonable idea, but Meth has become a major problem in rural areas and a lot of the users are just young people who've never been in trouble before but have taken a wrong turn and gotten hooked on the stuff. They're your neighbor's kids or even your relatives. Don't get me wrong, I'm not soft on drug users, but kids screw up sometimes. If you can prove their identity and report them, hopefully they can get some help after punishment.

BTW, if you should come across a meth lab, stay away from it until the police arrive. Very dangerous stuff.

Flaboy, That guy Bubba a relative of yours? I think I know him!

Like the gun too! I bet when you shoot those snowbirds with it they don't go far. ;-)
