Personally - for my area we do the horned Herefords. They cross with everything and those horns when trained down look good.
We cross them with both colours of Angus, Shorthorns and so on. Works for us - rainy, cold and muddy weather - we get lots and snow comes hard here. Exotics do not handle it well - but they can do it if there is enough shelter - we just let ours go outside year round.
