What is the bull market like this spring so far?

I've got a sale coming up. What should I expect?

Prices are down around here. Hard to say how much but I would say "Considerable".

The averages on the bull sales around here have been down and several no sales. We sell mostly private and we have started getting a few more calls the last couple weeks. We usually have 3/4 or more of our fall bulls sold by now, this year it has only been about 1/4 so I shipped most of the spring bull calves and I may send most of the 06 fall calves to the salebarn as well. I think things will pick up some when the grass starts growing if grain prices level off.

Judging by the prices quoted in the March Alabama Farmer's Bulletin it reads like a lot of people are just trying to dump their bulls to get them out of the pens. I have no place to put them; but there are about a half dozen ads of people selling heifers CHEAP enough that under other circumstances I would drive down to look at what they got.

our bull average was down about $500 this year. we were selling a few more head, but down either way.

the sales i have been to this year have shown a more picky buyer. many sales in the past had many aniamls selling in the same range. this year it looks like the good bulls have many bidders and bad bulls have very few.

I'd say prices were down in my area, too. Lots of people culled harder than usual because of the drought and fires. They don't need as many bulls this year. It's March 6th, still not raining and not much chance for the next week according to the weatherman.

That's encouraging, Limomike. But I think they get more rain in the eastern part of the state than we do. We've got chances for rain Fri, Sat and Sun. Not good ones, but the best chances in a while. Cross your fingers....

I watched the Feddes/C-T Red Angus Bull Sale Today on DV Auction and bulls seemed to of sold pretty well. They didnt have to many bulls under 2,000 and the high seller was 10,000.

Its back alittle from last year but not much.
