China spying on you! We'll it wasn't in the pasture, but was about 200-300 feet above it. It was cold wintertime, about 11pm I saw a blimp. No lights, no sound, drifting about 5 mph. I had been building my present home and had just left to go home. If I hadn't stopped to pee and close the gate, I'd have never known. It was a clear starry night, no moon, and I could only see the silhouette. It was an eerie experience.
Most people thought I was crazy. One person opined that it could have been one of the Goodyear blimps being repositioned from a Cowboys football game the previous evening to a football game somewhere northeast. I never could get the football schedule and the direction of travel to agree. Still a mystery.
She looks all tangled up badThis is now the hearth for the downstairs fireplace. It was right next to a subterranean structure.

Hasn't been pasture since before we bought the ranch, but a fawn was tangled up in some old panels in the woods by the house. Interesting, it was a twin and mama watched us get it untangled. And I couldn't help but snuggle it a bit before I let it go. Then she hung out in our back yard for probably 4 more years.

One day, maybe 2-3 weeks or so after the 9-11 attacks, I was down in the field patching an interior fence, and saw something odd up in the air. When I could finally see what it was it was a blimp. I believe it was a Goodyear Blimp I’d never seen anything like that before so the timing was unnerving. We'll it wasn't in the pasture, but was about 200-300 feet above it. I can't count how many theories my brain has considered over the years. It was so strange being that low over a very rural area. I later wondered if it was DEA using infrared to find pot grow operations. It was December 1998. I suppose the heat from a year-round grow operation would shine like a ruby in a goats azz on a cold night.China spying on you!

Lot of growing gone on around this part of the state. Quite a few helicopters flying over, over the years. We have a steep hillside lot that used to have for sheep.I can't count how many theories my brain has considered over the years. It was so strange being that low over a very rural area. At that time, McCurtain and LeFlore County Oklahoma (right next door) were well known to produce mass quantities of pot. Aircraft were often used, during the day, to identify suspect operations, but they started getting shot at.
I don't know if the minimum 500 ft above ground level applies to blimps like it does aircraft, but it was well below that for the several minutes it was in my view.
I had a friend in Arkansas that had 17 plants growing for personal use and one day I see a sedan speeding up the county road with four guys in camo holding M-16s... and it ended up they went to his house. Another sedan from the other side, a pickup trough the fences from the back... and a helicopter so small that it could fly among the trees and look into his house. He was there with his 6 and 8 year old daughters and scared the bejesus out of him.Lot of growing gone on around this part of the state. Quite a few helicopters flying over, over the years. The part of it that can be mowed gets mowed with the rest of the pasture but a small area cannot be so it grows up in weeds. One morning as I was driving cattle out to pasture after sorting, working, I saw helicopter, flying low and circling around that lot and it amost landed down below it. When I got down to the gate of another lot to open out into the pasture. The helicopter took back up and came straight toward me.
It dipped down low a little ways out in front of me. I didn't know what to do, I think I shrugged my shoulders and waved at them, not knowing if they were gonna a bunch of people jump out of the open middle part or what. They must have figured out I wasn't who they were looking for, cause they lifted back up and went on, circling in the distance.
After thinking about it they probably suspected something may have been growing amongst the weeds and wanting to get a closer look at that and me.
Another time a lot less menacing I looked up and saw some guy in what looked like a hang glider, but it was a frame looked like a go cart under the wings he was sitting in that was propelling the contraption.
Edit to add theres a helicopter flying over part of our county today, people on FB are saying it's been circling between a couple roads for a while.
Pics or it didn't happen!Years ago I was planting water pink lily plants in my pond in the nude and looked up, there was my rancher neighbor (also a friend) standing there looking at me. I came out, grabbed a towel, marched up to him demanding What are you doing here? He stuttered a bit and said, Melissa, uhh um, You'd make a good milker. Now we are married for the past 9 years.
She was. Quality time with the wire cutters. But when I finally let her go, she bounded off like nothing happened. She looks all tangled up bad
Makes quite a racket don't it,,?Once found a ford 300 inline 6 cylinder motor in a pasture. Probably 1500’ from the nearest road. We’d owned that property for over 40 years, so it wasn’t like it was left by a previous renter/owner. Crazy thing is, I gave the motor to a neighbor thinking it was junk. He had it running in 4 days and it’s now in one of his trucks!
Also, once while I was chopping corn silage, I hit a bowling ball about 1/3 of the way inside the field
Luckily, the gathering chains didn’t pull it into the chopper. I don’t know if I was busier chopping or trying to keep the bowling ball still on the floorboard!Makes quite a racket don't it,,?
Yep. The best running, most indestructible motor ever built!Once found a ford 300 inline 6 cylinder motor in a pasture. Probably 1500’ from the nearest road. Around 30 yrs ago I was working on a 2,000 acre ranch across the Red River from McCurtain County. I was in the little community Store/Cafe one day and 3-4 folks came in that definitely didn't fit in. One of them was paying out in front of me and I noticed his collared shirt had a small helicopter sewn on it and said"If you grow it we will come"At that time, McCurtain and LeFlore County Oklahoma (right next door) were well known to produce mass quantities of pot.
