We took these a few weeks ago and I just had to share them. Do you like any of them? What's your favorite?

not trying to pick a fight, but I dont like any of them. They are fitted show animals, animals that have been pampered their whole lives. I understand that to be competive in the show ring that these animals have to be treated in this manner. They may or not, be reflective of their breed which I assume is Maine, but they do not represent cattle in the real world, and those are the types of animals I like to look at. Of course that is only my personal taste....As for being show cattle they look good ,I have never seen u put a pic on this board of show cattle that did not look outstanding.

They look great Jeanne. Do you always doll em up like that to go play in the snow :lol2: :lol2: :lol2:

Why yes I did grasshopper............Did u get any rain? Got 10 drops that I counted!

Pics aren't the quality i'm used to seeing from you, but the red one wins hands down going by these pics.

Thanks all. I'm pretty partial to the red one, but in real life, you would also be quite taken with the 2-yr old black cow. You could set a dinner service on her back.
Houstoncutter - I can appreciate the fact that you don'l like "show cattle" - that's your opinion.
But - two of these (including the red one) have never seen a show halter. The two nursing cows have not seen grain since they got bred. And the grain they got was from weaning to breeding thru the winter. This is the real world. My herd lives on grass & hay. Granted - GOOD grass & hay, but they put up with pretty harsh winters.
Yes, their head is shaved & we "tidied" up their neck & squared off their tailhead. Other than that, that's pasture condition. We lucked out & the red one loves to stay clean and it had been so cold, we didn't need to worry about mud. I did let them stay in the barn for 2 nights prior to pics to THAW out their leg hair. We ran them thru the chute & blew their hair off - that's it. Trust me, we don't do much primping in this weather. We were on deadlines for pics for a catalog.

what's the weather got to do with it? we have to hold a gun to your head to let us fit them for show in summer for goodness sakes!! :D

I love those maines too :lol2:

I like those Maines also.
Are they going into a sale catalog? If so where?

I have seen her cattle first hand and would love it if mine could stay in that good of condition.

That first one looks like a super good cow! The front udder attachment on the 2nd one bothers me, maybe it's just the photo. 3rd one just a baby but has promise, and the 4th one also young but like her length and she sure is fancy. Overall those are females to be proud of, way to go!

Think I will stand by my comments on these being show stock, but I did have a senior moment when I said Maines, I meant to say Simmental. It looks as if the third animal has some Meyer 734 breeding.

Curious why you say these must be show stock? Because some one took the time to clean them up, set them up and take good photos of them? Or because they are in good condition? You saying that working cattle can't look that good or what????

No Randiliana, real working cows are not clipped or grain fed...I am looking for a heifer that was weaned, not grained fed, not pampered, and calved as a 2 year old... That is what i am looking for in a cow...She may not be the biggest or be pretty...but she has one thing going for her that is $$$$$ sign all over her...Give me a pasture full of em......If things get tough that fitted animal will be a the barn bawling. Sorry some of us call that type of cow.... welfare girls.....always looking for a hand out.

I like all of them!
The red cow the most. Nice udder and great body conformation.

@ houston cutter

What is wrong with showstock? Some of the best cows and bulls of the many breeds of cattle were "show stock".

Feeding grain to a heifer from weaning to breeding age just helps push them a little to help them reach their max size.
When they heifer is bred the grain stops. She has a 9 month period to re adjust to an all hay and/or grass diet. And will be able to raise her calf on grass alone.
Just because a cow looks good coming out of the winter does not mean she is showstock.
It is called GOOD GENETICS!!!!!
