The new ranch we bought in NW Alabama had two of the blue Prefert self catch scissors. Many people speak highly of them, I have never used them but I don't see the attraction. They don't fit the way I work, If you are close to Florence- Muscle Shoals send me a PM. @
Check with your state cattlemen's assn. They probably put out a newsletter, & you could put an ad in it. Also, check with local extension, see if they know of any farms going out of business.

Whatever brand of head gate that you get make sure that it is solid material expect where the head is catch. We have an old Prefert and it has small opening on the side of the gate which a lot of calves get their front legs trapped in. It seemed really easy for the calf to get caught but hard to get out. The calves I know end up being bruised and sometime skinned and cut. No calf has broke its leg yet but there is always that possibility. This is not a good experience for person or calf plus it take longer to work the calves if your trying to get legs out of the head gate. Good luck. Do your research and maybe visit some other cattle producers that already have head gates. Your Extension or County Cattleman's Assoication can provide lots of information.
