why do you have to be politically correct to talk about illigals....van load busted on the way to Atlanta from Texas to work... need to arrest the sorry piece that was gonna work em to.. and ship em all back ...

I suppose it's because our wonderful government is seriously considering the expenditure of $6.3 trillion to give them a "path to citizenship". And now because that issue has gained some acceptance among many of our taxpayers, the illegals don't appear to be so illegal any more.

So, if the deal is "qualified undocumented workers could pay fines and back taxes to become eligible to apply for a probationary legal status that -- after 10 years, more fines and a clean criminal record – can be adjusted to legal permanent residency and ultimately citizenship." (http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2013 ... t-63t?lite) and you were an "illegal swimmer across the Rio Grand" (wb), would you pay a fine and back taxes to become a bonafide US citizen?

I didn't read the article, but one of the subheadlines in a last week's Hou paper sated illegals (ahem--cough cough-- [undocumented immigrants] cough cough) will be able to get a Tex driver's lic without proving where they live or where they were born.
I can't tho, and I was born here in Texas and have always had to prove who I was and where I reside.

I could accept Robert Heinlein's take on citizenship in Starship Troopers tho. (from the 'kinda accurate' movie version:

Why do you reckon folks would hire the undocumented mexicans??

Because the labor is cheaper and they work their tails off. And the fact that many citizens will not even consider performing some of the tasks that the illegals are willing to do. They don't actually have to be 'hired'. They could be brought on 1099 in many cases, depending on the job.

Any 'path to citizenship' that will cost the illegal anything, probably won't work, IMO. And we will still have spent millions just to create a worthless program.

In rain sleet and snow.... they come out of the vans, ready to go to work...contractors are probably there biggest employer.....some are pimped out by there own kin.. he's the one making 50 cents more an hour

Why? I agree with you on the need to stop this but blaming the person who employs them is not the answer because this is not the problem. You must not realize that it is against federal discrimination laws NOT to hire them! So what is an employer to do? Face federal discrimination charges for not hiring them and ALSO be fined FOR hiring them? If you think this is right then I'm sure Obama has a place for you on his cabinet. Its a mess - I agree but to blame a person for employing someone is wrong. The job is open to anyone but many find it cheaper to pay someone to sit on their a$$ on the porch and do nothing rather than paying them $15/hour to maybe show up to work and on Friday have them tear up your equipment so they can go home early only not to show up on Monday. Do we have a problem? Absolutely! But don't go blaming the employers when ICE will sit at a table stuffing their fat faces beside a table full of illegals and not give them a second glance. Exactly what do we pay ICE to do? If them boys that busted the van load would like to fill about sixty more vans just let me know but until they decide to actually do their jobs I think we should leave the employers out of it and put the blame where it belongs.

and dont go putting me in that obama line either,,, cheap shot.. and try to make something look like it aint... but the contractors are the one knowingly hiring them... some probably using goverment money just get screwed over again....

Ala, if it takes a cheap shot for you to see its not the employers fault then so be it. Look, I hired about 15 of these guys because I couldn't coax anyone to come off the porch to help. I wasn't asking anyone to do anything that I wouldn't be doing myself but for some who are coddled by DotGov felt it beneath them so I turned to the migrant work force for help. Not wanting to do anything wrong I tured to the federal government for help in selecting some "legals". They gave me a list of names. I called them, hired them and they were great workers and great people just one problem. A year after hiring them I was informed by the IRS that EVERY ONE OF THE WORKERS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GAVE ME WERE ILLEGAL! So who are you going to blame?

Like I say, I agree that we have a big problem but its not the employers.

Jogee, I have used a few myself and they are very hard workers. I don't blame them for being here. I blame the US and Mexican governments for allowing them over the border. I have to offer a jaundiced eye on the discrimination comment. If you mean by "employ" a W-2 worker then the I-9 would follow which would eliminate those who don't have false papers. If a cash deal, then there's no paper trail. In any case, I could see where getting down on employers that use large numbers of them every day might help a tiny bit but it's really like putting your finger in the hole in the dike. The problem has to be stopped at the border. As to what to do with the ones already here; that's a tough one!

James, I was real concerned about hiring illegals so I turned to my accountant and he gave me a form issued by Homeland Security which is made for this very purpose. There are five criteria you are to go on and each person must meet at least two of the five criteria and if they do the form states that you cannot discriminate. To simplify things here, all they need is a social security number and a valid driver's license and they are golden. Once they are flagged by the IRS, I am informed by them that I am to fill out some additonal paperwork and send in additional taxes on each flagged individual but I am not informed of this for a year to 18 months later. As long as they are getting their taxes the IRS does not care - (seems to me anyway).

That old "they work so hard" stereotype doesn't hold true. Friend of mine manages a restaurant, one of their cooks showed them papers to get hired but they suspect he's illegal. He's a PITA, my friend keeps firing him and the head boss keeps hiring him back. Payday, he takes his break to "go cash his check" and doesn't come back, sometimes not the next day either. They have caught him stealing food out the back so many times, now they have to have a policy that when someone takes out the trash they have to be accompanied by management. He won't ever come in, for time-and-a-half overtime pay, to cover a shift and help them out if somebody else doesn't show up. His "friends" that they have hired are just as bad. I have heard similar horror stories from others, they all want to know where these "work hard for no money" illegals can be found!

I just can't figure out why we still have this problem. I seem to remember back in the 80's, we did an amnesty program and secured the border. At least that's what the politicians said at the time.

As practical as it might be to give them some sort of legal status, instead of trying to deport them all, it sticks in my craw. Illegal is illegal. It's like saying, my neighbor has a lot nicer house and lives much better than I do. So, that makes it OK for me to sneak over there and live in his basement.

Dead bill it is not coming out of committee.

This all goes back to the nanny state American's don't have to work or want to.
Nanny state go away and the illegal worker would not be near as welcome.
It is our own fault.

That's all I'm saying. I hate it. I don't like having to hire them if they are illegal but what do you do? Its not the employer's fault if he has a contract and needs to hire people and no one is willing to work because for fear of messing up their benefits. I've had to turn away some good american people who wanted me to pay a relative because they can't work without losing their benefits. Its insane. Just today I had one of these guys drop by to see me and he told me he was going to work for John Deere. I asked him if this wasn't going to mess up his "disability check". He said it would but he got tired of jumping from cash job to cash job and wanted something more stable because the $350/month he was getting for disability wasn't worth continuing this cause JD was going to pay a lot more. Can you believe this! He didn't hold a regular job for over 15 years just so he could keep getting this measely check. But that's the mentality of many. BTW - if he is disabled they need to give me one of those free scooter things and a monthly check twice what he was getting.

I agree with Mo_Cows. Not all of them are hard working. I've fired plenty but for the most part they are very dependable and honest and to me that is what is important.

I think your right. Its just another talking points the dems are using to devide the nation even further.

Jo you are right on the money. I hand planted pine trees all over the south when i was younger. You cannot find a crew of Americans to hand plant trees. The company i worked for was forced to use Mexicans or go out of busniess.

I here this argument all the time and call BS. Please tell me what jobs the illegals will do that Legal immigrants wont do? the difference is you have to pay the legal immigrants and Americans minimum wage. If you have a job like that then hey, the employment problem is solved. We can put all the welfare who just cant seem to find a job to work.
