I know a killed vaccine is safe but is it still seems alright to give to my cattle who are 7 or 8months bred? Usually we do it around 5 months but life got in the way. They recieved a MLV when they all calved and were open in april time. But I would like to use the Triangle 10 this time.. just concerned about reactions and them being heavy bred...dont want reactions and abortions happening.

Okay thank you...yeah i was just worried to give them it at 7.5 months bred. Very nervous for a abortion/ reaction

I suggest starting with reading the whole label. Vaccine Co is going to cover its butt and if the vaccine has not been tested on 3rd trimester cows they will say it's not approved for that class of cattle.

I use Triangle 6 on every cow I buy. That includes 7 and 8 month breds which I buy in January. Never been an issue for me. I see at Oregon Trail Livestock Supply they have a pretty big stock in their cooler so i am not the only one using it.

We use Triangle 10 on every female here... Opens, breds, heavy breds, boughts, heifers prior to breeding... They get brought in and preg checked and doesn't matter what stage they are in...
Most all my dairy farms I test, use Triangle 10.
I use Triangle 5 on the steer calves when they are weaned and run through the chute when we bring them home from pasture, as well as any bought calves. We often buy some bull calves and work them and vaccinate, then integrate with others of the same size to make groups to sell.
Also, all calves get blackleg when they come home from pasture again. A booster so to speak.... Because it seems to be more prevalent, we sometimes give the cows blackleg also when run through for preg check. Especially the late fall preg checks for spring calving cows... This helps to boost the immune bodies in the colostrum. We lost several one year to black leg... 350-400 lb calves at a pasture... so are extra vigilant. They get black leg when they go out to pastures, or get moved around at home for winter pasture/feeding... most are in the 4-8 week old range. The way I look at it, it is cheap insurance (cost) and they are in the chute to get tagged or worked before they go "away" from the barn.... I know the thoughts are they have protection from the dam and colostrum for about 8 weeks, and to give it to newborns is said to be a waste and works against the dam's colostrum immunity.... so we give it when they are moved... some are older, some are younger than the 8 weeks. Again, cheap insurance in my book.

Have never had any adverse reaction from Triangle 10 in any pregnant cows that we are aware of.

That is what we use, Triangle 10 HB... the HB is for the specific strain of lepto... Hardjo Bovis... seems to be a problem in some areas... not covered in a 5 way lepto. Makes it more expensive... I just paid $150 for a 50 dose bottle (250 ml). $3.00 a shot...

Thank you alot. Yes we have always used triangle 10hb on our pregnant heifers/ cows we just have never waited this long so i was a little worried and curious with them being so far along. Life has been chaotic. Yes our young ones get intransal and MLV vaccines at weaning. Thank you for explaing and not making me feel stupid or over worrying ....I apprecaite your info alot.

We do not use any MLV here... there is too much interaction with different cattle, moving things around and us putting together some groups of weaned steers and such... will NOT take the chance of a cow coming in contact with anything that is MLV.... we vaccinated a bunch of calves for a marketing program, had to use MLV to qualify, and had more sick animals than we ever had... NEVER AGAIN... I understand people have very good results with it... we did not and can not take the chance of a cross exposure . That is for everyone to decide for themselves. Our vaccination program seems to work well for us, and we stick to it. Buyers are always told what we use and such... if the ones that have bought our steers or even the 5 wt heifers, want to change it up that is their privilege.

Read the labels/instructions.
