I know the house I lost was not prorated. I think the house I built was. Another crazy thing was, that I used the same footer on the new house. When they measured the new house, it had 300 more square feet than they had been charging me for on the last one.

and here I thought Illinois was bad, sorry to hear that as you have so many thing to deal with the county has to be added to the list of leeches looking for the last penny

Wow, you are a fast mover! I am sorry that it made a mess of your life. The same tornado that got you in 2006 got one of our farms where it destroyed all the trees, barns and the house. We found canceled checks from Missouri. It is amazing what a tornado can do. I am glad that you are OK and it didn't destroy your house.

Finished up yesterday. Everybody is always posting on here, how much a barn will cost. In materials, nails screws and everything, I have $3.83 a square foot in that building. Also if the back of place didn't get hit by a tornado tuesday, I don't know what it was. Luckily. it was just trees, and a small section of fence.

What size is it? Is your price per square foot materials only and you built yourself?

That is just materials. $6900 for 1800 square feet. I weaked and had a crane set the trusses that was an extra $250. Couldn't say exactly what I have in labor. We re roofed my horse barn, and did a lot of odds and ends. 7 or 8 partial days of work in that barn. The only major project left is my working pen. There is a priefert head catch on a place I rent. If I can get it bought right, I'll be happy.

I'm thinking about building a real low loft in one corner to put my square bales on. I think I salvaged enough scrap to do it. The space is tied up 10 months out of the year with hay anyway. With a loft, I could atleast store some things under the hay. I lose the bottom run, even sitting on pallets. I still feed it to the cows, but not the horses, so I guess it's not really lost. I can winter my horses on 300-350 square bales. I usually go over board and do 700. If I just baled what I needed it might work.

I like the loft idea, I would think you could build above the bay with the gravity wagon and possibly another bay depending on what you put under it. Glad you are making progress on rebuilding.
What type of construction will your pens be? We have some permanent alley and gated but mostly heavy corral panels.

One thin about the barn, like most others I see on here is built on the wrong spot. Yours is about 60 miles too far west. :lol:

What I lost was pressure treated lumber, on pressure treated post. I'll go back the same way. I'd been wanting to add a calf table. I guess that's on hold now.

That is not a fun job but as long as no one was hurt its just money.
Had a tornado mess up my house in Alicia and in Rita took out half of mom's and dad's
old place. Been there got the t shirt and don't want another one.

That is not a fun job but as long as no one was hurt its just money.

Oh I've bought got it licked now. The guy working on my house, hasn't been out in weeks. I'm getting a little tired of looking at my smashed up gutters etc.

It's not really available here.

That's to bad. I can build pens out of pipe about as cheap as buying wood posts and boards, it lasts forever and even the craziest of cows can't break out of it. I do still build some stuff out of ruff sawed oak from small local mills here, just because I really like the way it looks, defiantly not because it's a good idea.

Mine hasn't been bad at all. They depreciated my house, but I think I get the money back once I spend it. I hope I'm understanding them correctly. My big horse trailer was on my car insurance, not my farm policy. I didn't know that till the other day. It was a seperate $2500 deductable.

I had a crew start on this today. It has 5 post from the old barn in it. I'm reasonably sure, I can cover the outside with tin I salvaged from the other barn. It's gonna be 36' x 36'. I'll spring for new tin on the roof ofcourse.
