Interesting. Only pine here is red and white pine. Both rot out roughly half an hour after the first rain. Ha

They likely grow too fast. Here in the cold, burnt over desert it takes 400 years to grow a 12 inch tree.

I can remember my granddad seasoning white oak post over a huge bed of coals.

I bought this place in 73 and still today have some post oak posts in the ground that are solid. Kinda tough to drive a staple in.

When I moved here the corral needed new rails. They were still up but at the end of their life. A neighbor who was 50 then said he helped his Dad and the ranch owner to get the rails when he was 8. So 42 years before. They were spiked to RR ties as posts. The majority of the ties were still solid.
On the way to town there is the remains of an old corral. It is between the old highway and the freeway. The rails have fallen off but the RR tie posts are still there and up right. When they built the freeway it cut this corral off from the owner's range land. They built the freeway in 1962. The corral would have been in place before that by how many years?
