ABOUT THE PRICES AT THE BARN......
I sold 3 open cull cows this week that brought averaged over $1000 pr head

Seems in many areas are present weather situation along with the current market make it the perfect time for "Everyone" to reduce numbers by heavy culling. No need to miss out on the good market and cut expenses at the same time. Like land, sometimes you can be "cow poor" as well. Not a time to be herd building in my mind.

Here are results from last week in this area (Northern Colorado/SE Wyoming). Averages seemed down slightly from 4-6 weeks ago, but they're still seeing trending back up. If most TX cattleman are going to reduce herds significantly, what impact do you think that will have on the larger market/prices in the near future, and in turn what effect will that have on the replacement market down the road?

Prices are good now--took 3 to the sale barn on Wed, and I didn't even get close to top dollar. These 3 animals been busting out for a few weeks, a 20 month steer, pregnant cow and her 8 month calf. They don't like my chocolate white face animals--so I got less than I expected. But I got:

$95.50 cwt for 1240 steer = 1184.20 (Choc WF)
$115.00 cwt for 655 8mo bull = 753.25 (docked because a bull and not vacinated)
3yo RWF Cow 3rd Stage = 800.00

Total 2737.45...I was hoping for 3K..but now no one is loose :)

I do wonder why lots of times when I sell at the barn, my animals do not make the market report. I sometimes think they want us to see the high prices and bring the animals in. Sometimes I know the reporter is not there the entire time or not at all. I was only able to be there to see the bull calf sell--others already sell, I did watch for an hour or so, and not all calves bring over $100 cwt.

Anyway I was happy to see my problem leave.

Took 3 to Raywood Tx Monday...got the results yesterday....650lb average $1.16 average....one 700lb bull - got docked for being a bull at 1.11 and the others two steers 650lbs and 643lbs came in higher at something like 1.16 and 1.18...I left the ticket in the truck.

Not bad, but not as good as weeks past.

The east Texas markets just don't bring as much as the rest of the state (excluding Amarillo)....if I were to haul those same cows closer to San Antonio They could be 1.30-1.44

Not worth the diesel for 3, but if I were unloading 80 or 90 I would be traveling....

We sold one at Navasota last weekend. The place was jammed with trucks and trailers with people selling. We sold an Angus/Braunvieh heifer, 890 lbs. .85

I had hoped that she would have brought more, but I am glad that she is gone. She was a fence crawler. My husband said that if she wants to live somewhere else, we will make it easy for. She was a really nice one. Too bad she had an attitude.
