Time cattle raisen! (as ONLY-BEEF would say!)

We all have knowledge that we feel is worth passing on. Were did we learn it, and how long have we been at it??

Been at it since I was 10yr and still learning. Started in 4-H and just kept at it. There have been lots of ups and some real lows but wouldn't change any of it.

Been at it 37 years (was born & raised a city gal) and ALWAYS learning something new. Hopefully I never think I know everything there is to know. That would be time to lay down & quit.

Only 22 but been at it 18 years, be 19 years this spring. So i might not have known much about the cattle or the feed when i was just startin out, but thats when i learned the right way to act around animals and how to do a lot of little things around the ranch. Tell you what by the time i was 6 i was an expert gate opener. Now I think I've gained a little knowledge about the cattle and how to feed and take care of 'em.

rkm i milked cows for 28yrs.an the change over didnt bother me.everything is the same except for the added vet work an pulling calves.an the workload is a heck of alot easier.

So what does this have to do with helping begginers? Should go under the everything else or coffee shop.

Are we passing on Knowledge here or just, stating how long we've been around cattle? Someone can be around cattle for 30 years and not know.......well you know the rest. ;-)

I thought it may be good for many of the new comers to see that a lot of folks on here are first generation cattle producers. Sometimes people on here talk as if there is not a hope in h--- of a newbe learning enough and working hard enough to make a go of ranching in their life time. If you are willing to take some of the good advice given and put your nose to the grind stone "beginners" can become good cattle producers in less time then we often make it sound.

Encouraging a beginner is often as good or better then just telling them what to do.

I've seen good cattlemen go under through the years. You can go 4 weeks with no rain and then fires take away everything you have. House, barn, tractor, fence - all of it. You can get crippled. Anything can happen.

I think you had the right idea but you have far more people talking like they have been doing this all there life.
First you have to forget all that cowboy crap and fancy equipment, and figure out you are a grass farmer.

The way I first heard it was by a mentor pointing up at the sun, and saying, " If you can't explain it all the way from there to your wallet, you are gonna fail".
