Three breeds poll.

Situation:

only three breeds exist. you cannot crossbreed. there are no climatic extremes.

what would you choose?

Hereford of course. They are the prettiest.

I'd choose angus, mostly because of meat quality, and familiarity with that breed, both historically and experience-typically speaking. I think they're a little more docile behaviourly than the other two. I've been around hereford cattle, and you can't even get near them, they're a bit wild. From where I come from, I know nothing about Brahman, only hear-say.
Just my thoughts/2 cents.

I'm guessing there are also no insect and parasite extremes, so Brahman would be out for me. There is not a dime's worth of difference between Angus and Hereford on mature size, efficiency, carcass, and fertility. I would pick Herefords on disposition and foraging ability, which are marginally better than Angus, but I also realize Angus probably have an advantage on eyes. Herefords by a hair.

as much as i like crossing brahman id would have too go angus or hereford . getting older and my a$$ dont move like it should. you know the feeling when you think you running hard but you feel something warm and wet in your back pocket ;-)

Oh c'mon! That's just because I've been around angus cattle more than herefords! There's two (no, three) hereford calves out of a 100 head of steers that're wilder than a march hare (maybe because of those char calves... :roll: ) The angus calves are "docile"; more annoying than anything :lol: ... follow me around most everywhere thinking I'm gonna give em some chop... and then some!
Heck, I'm going to be turning 20 in the fall, which goes to show you how much I've still got to learn, and how much time I still have to prove that herefords have better dispositions than angus!! ;-) :cboy:

Herefords. I've made the comment a few times that if I could start over from scratch it would be with a bunch of herf heifers, breed to angus for first two or three years, and then use a simmi bull on them, keeping every worthwhile heifer.

It would still depend on where you live. Temperate probably Hereford, tropical would be Brahman.

I say angus cause they have good marbling, and i am already familiar with the genes, numbers, and they are my fav. too. lol

I would have to choose Hereford. It is a hard decision, but the Hereford is generally a calmer animal than the other 2 breeds, and I don't care to be chased by angry mamas. They are also good foragers, and deal well in our climate. But the biggest reason would be the docility factor.
