Things to do in Kansas City, MO

It looks like I will be headed to KC next week on business. Any must-see things in KC? I will be there overnight.

If you like history, go see the Steamboat Arabia museum. 1800s paddle wheeler that sank in the Missouri, it was loaded with supplies for the frontier. It was buried in mud, when the river changed course they were able to dig it up. Like an 1800's Wal Mart, all kinds of artifacts in amazing condition.

Arthur Bryant's is good BBQ meat but I have never been a fan of their sauce. Like the "sweet heat" the best. There are lots of good BBQ joints in Kansas City. Smoke House, Jack Stack, Smokin Guns, really can't think of a bad one. The chef at the airport Hilton has a BBQ team and they have smoked meat on the menu there. It really is a BBQ town.

If you like Italian food, go to Cascones or Jaspers. For steak, Golden Ox down in the bottoms. That area used to be the stockyards.

Cabela's and a Bass Pro both in the KC area. Harley plant is near the airport, they have some displays in the lobby but I don't think they don't do full tours all the time.

An hour north is St. Joseph, home of the Pony Express and the original stable is now a museum. Also St. Joe is home of the Angus assn. Kearney, also about an hour, has the Jesse James farm. Charolais and Hereford assns are in Kansas City, too.

If you are flying in, you will like the airport.

What part of K.C. will you be staying?

Cabelas is located next to the Legends shopping area. Lots of shopping and several places to eat. There is an Arthur Bryant's just north and across the street from Cabelas.

Oklahoma Joes seems to be strong in K.C. for BBQ. Arther Bryant's tough to beat.

Plaza Christmas lights along with dinner usually makes for a relaxing evening this time of year. McCormick & Shmick's on the plaza is pretty nice for fresh seafood and steaks. Several other places for dinner on the Plaza. M&S is one of our favorites

Not sure what events are going on at the Sprint Center, if any, in the Power & Light District. Several good places for dinner there also.

Crown Center.

Golden Ox in the west bottoms down by the old stock yards area, good place for steaks.

Plaza the place Togo for high end shoppin and Christmas
Lights. But gates has the best BBQ my opinion
And they have nice union station museum. Downtown as well

If he is going to meet Sara he better have a chaperone. I will voluneer for the job. Let me know which day to be there.

The last time I was in KC was the fall of '67 for the National FFA convention. I wonder if things have chaged any since then?

The airport is nice and laid back, its on the far west side of the Kansas side of town. There are a lot of amazing restraunts in the KC area, just as a heads up, make sure to read reviews on resteraunts before going (and yes im thinking of one place in particular, pm if u want the name) there are a lot of places with horrible service.

Farmgirl, KCI airport is north and west of downtown KC but still in Missouri. If you flew in there, you weren't in Kansas anymore! :lol:

I guess your right, i just assumed it was because of where a friends house was at, but i forgot she went to high school on the Missouri side. I usually spend all my time in the area in Overland Park and Leawood now....great food and great shopping.
