Duane Latimer, a native of Bienfait, Sask., won a duel with American Tim McQuay to take gold in reining at the World Equestrian Games in Germany.

Both achieved a score of 230 in the individual final to force a playoff.
"I've never marked a 230 before and had to go again," Latimer said. "That's the loudest crowd I've ever run in front of."

McQuay, riding Mister Nicadual, lost his concentration on his next run and his horse did an unexpected flying change on the first big circle.
As a result, McQuay took a score of 226.

Latimer, who now lives in the U.S., took 228 points. He rode Hang Ten Surprize.
