Like a bowl of chunky snot, although I preferred it to her vomit casserole (squash mush yuck). My grandmother made this dish too when she didn't feel like frying it. It's nasty!

Squash mush, reminds me of what my grandmother just called squash. She’d take bigger more mature yellow crook neck squash and run it through a colander then cook it with cream and butter, a little salt and pepper. Kind of like puréed squash or mush but I liked it. We had that pretty often during the summer.Like a bowl of chunky snot, although I preferred it to her vomit casserole (squash mush yuck).

Occasionally she’d fix a squash casserole, just replace broccoli with yellow squash the rest of the recipe was the same.
here too, unless some cajun throws it in 'a gumbo'.I don't know anyone who eats boiled okra. Okra is fried or pickled down here.
Did we have the same Mamaw??Like a bowl of chunky snot, although I preferred it to her vomit casserole (squash mush yuck).
I like the little okra fresh out of the garden, and raw. The ones that are under an inch long. Otherwise I usually make gumbo with okra or mix it with rice and black-eyed peas. I wish I had a good breading recipe for it. I'd like to do it fried and maybe do some fried zucchini.People in the north do not pretend they like boiled okra.
