So i'm going to have my first set of registered calves on the ground shortly and was wondering what type and size tatoo gun most of you all were using. I'm leaning towards a 3/8 model with the positive release but don't know if that would be a smart go.. any thoughts, opinions, or personal experience please.

these were the ones i was thinking about..

We use the same as Dun does, in one ear they get on the top row our prefix and below the animal number and year letter. The other ear gets two tags the rfid on the inside and the herd identification on the outside. I like the green ink better.

Before I tattoo the ear, I clean it with rubbing alcohol and then apply orajel ,then the ink ,tattoo and apply more ink . I hate tattooing though, it is messy and a PITA, even if you wear rubber gloves.

I have used these like you have pictured. I like that they have a positive release ~ I have used ones that don't and even that small step is a pain when you only have 2 hands and they're both busy. And I have only used green ink as well. Good luck, hate that job.
