Deer season in this part of the world.
I have heard four shots since opening weekend, one of them mine. My place has 7k acre deer lease north and south of me.
I don’t remember an acorn crop like this year. Hogs aren’t even coming to feeders. Feed store manager said he way over ordered corn for this season.
I turned my feeders off or to min setting once a day. The deer are still coming in a little for protein.

No deer rifle shots heard here. Saw some hogs yesterday evening late, but was unarmed. Duck hunters had a limit yesterday morn on one of my big ponds.
The hunted animals have lots to eat. My cows, not so much but they are plenty fat.

Acorns are rare here this year as are hickory nuts, and walnuts. Deer have moved to the fields and eating grass. Bear are coming to houses and making a mess.

Few to no acorns in our area to start with and now after 7+ inches of rain the creeks are all out of the banks so any acorns are rotten or washed away. I'm feeding 200+ lbs of corn a day just to keep the deer on us. Around here it sounds like a war zone on the weekends, I'm looking forward to the after Thanksgiving deer hunting lull.

Mast is scarce, almost nonexistent. Squirrels are going to have a thin winter.

Lots of shots since the High Power rifle season opened on November 10th. Seeing some nice bucks being forced onto the farm by all the hunting in nearby areas.

Mast is so heavy here it’s like walking on marbles. Between white oak and chestnut oak acorns the cows,deer and hogs are in heaven.

Maybe you have the perfect business opportunity. Gathering acorns and shipping them east. We're not allowed to feed deer but it would be hard to prove if it was acorns instead of corn.

Baiting works best when everyone isn't doing it. Feeding cows isn't illegal, we have to dove hunt this way.

A farmer here grew a few acres of hemp this year as a test for a college and he said the seed brought the doves in strong.

We killed 19 yesterday but overall it was a quiet day for the opening of dog season.

here in east central va....the nut crops were all abundant...acorns almost problematic....plenty of hickory and walnut...I even had a few chestnut on my young chestnut trees but the squirrels got them...

Filled my feeder with corn one time this year. Took them 6 weeks to empty it. Took the card out of the game camera. Had 500+ pictures on it. Every pic was of the same 3 little doe along with a lot of coons and squirrels. NO idea what happened to the deer. Acorns are about the size of BB's and already been rained on several times so many will rot. Don't know what has happened to them. Do know that 5 or 6 were hit and killed by vehicles.

It’s just spooky you see no game driving to town no matter the time. It’s normal for a hog or deer to cross the county road going and coming.
You don’t see anything but tracks.
I know Scotty didn’t beam them up on the Enterprise.

Deer season the only shots I heard were the ones my kids fired. Elk season came and went and I never heard a single shot. It is not like there isn't any deer or elk. In the two weeks since the rut started I have seen at least one buck every day and mostly from the house. Right now there is a pretty good 4 point and a spike in the west field. It is a combination of large private ranches to the south and east along with the BLM to the north and west that is more rugged then the vast majority of people will venture into.

I did see a small possum crossing the road last night and wood ducks are everywhere right now.That's about it.

There used to be a lot of small possums we called Midnight Possum. Not sure why but seems we only treed them when nothing else was stirring.

Got a doe with my truck about a week ago, 2nd one this year. Have had 3 more very close near misses in the last 2 weeks. D#*@ deer are grazing the fields like cattle. Most does had twins with them this year. Wish someone would start getting them during hunting season so I don't have to get them with my truck. Tired of replacing headlights, popping out dented fenders...can't be bothered to replace the plastic grill and such.

There used to be a lot of small possums we called Midnight Possum. Not sure why but seems we only treed them when nothing else was stirring.

My dad was a serious big time coon hunter. I have seen thousands of dollars change hands over a Redbone or Black and Tan. He had an old Redbone that had won numerous field trails, there wasn’t enough money to buy ole Buck.
Every now in then one of his young dogs would tree one once. After he got whipped with that possum and had to wear it never needed to worry about that again.
He always said it’s a bad omen for tonight’s hunt.
