Have you got your stimulus check , you may not get one. The wife was reading about the the Government sending us a debit card instead. What she was reading said that the card would come to you in a plain envelope. She looked at the mail and there was a envelope with my name on it, she opened it and there it was a debit card. Only good to purchase something. The letter said I could go on line and see what the balance was after I established a pin number. And after that I could go on line and check the balance periodical if needed to. Only good to purchase something and there would be fees for using it.

Surely some bank would be able to accept it and allow you to deposit it instead?

Mine was direct transfer into my checking account. I just moved it over to the savings account, and will let it sit there until things settle down. If we don't need it for expenses, and I don't think we will, we'll probably put it in a mutual fund.

I've heard several times there were ways to have the cash amount deposited to the bank. I don't have mine so I haven't looked into it.

If you make an interest free loan to the government with every paycheck, and they send you the money back once a year after you file your taxes (sometimes referred to as an income tax refund), and have it direct deposited instead of mailed, then they send the stimulus to the same bank account.

Don't do this!! The Government will NOT send you a debit card. I'm not sure what the angle is on this one, but that card did not come to you in place of a stimulus check. It is most likely a con and they will use it to hack into your computer once you log on to check the balance. Checks are still being mailed to those people that did not have a bank account linked to their social security number. We just go ours this week. If you did not have a tax refund direct deposited to your bank this year, you will be mailed a check. It could take awhile to arrive.

Saw a bit about it on the news last night. Apparently you can go to the bank or an ATM machine and get cash withdrawals or withdraw in full. After one withdrawal it said there would be a fee.

Actually they ARE sending cards with a balance.

Really!!
Well that is new. After years of warning us that the IRS never contacts you by phone or asks you to pay or receive money via a debit card, they are now reversing course. I suppose it makes some sense. They want us to spend the money and stimulate the economy, but many conservative people are stashing it away in case they need it in the future.

It still seems a little shady to me, but getting $1200 just for being alive in America, also feels wrong. Is socialism that far off?

Yep! It's that easy...

The same thing happened during the recession 10 years ago. Everyone got $1,000.00 to stimulate the economy, unless of course you have an annual income over $100,000, in which case your economy apparently didn't need stimulating. If that wasn't pure wealth re-distribution I don't know what it was.

I had someone that asked if I thought there would be another stimulus check. I said the way it was currently wrote up I doubt it would pass. She said I hope they change it because she could use some more. This person didn't lose one hour of work because of any of this and has got paid the same amount they normally do. But blew the first check and wants more! Meanwhile, my wife and I don't qualify for a stimulus check because our income is too much and yet we lost money over this. Figure that one out. :???:

I was wrong as well evidently:

"The IRS said the Visa logo will appear on the front of the card — and the back of the card has the name MetaBank, the IRS' issuing bank. It also comes with information explaining that the card is an Economic Impact Payment Card and instructions on how to activate it.

Those who receive the prepaid debit card can withdraw cash from ATMs, transfer funds to their personal bank account, use it anywhere that Visa is accepted and check the balance of their card online or by phone.

Lost cards can be replaced by calling the customer service line 1-800-240-8100, according to Money Network Cardholder Services."

Well, my GROSS farm income puts me to the back of the line at the VA. And my income level since june 2019, negates my ability to refinance my home and small acreage, to build a shop and barn , to increase the value. I say burn it down.

Mine was direct deposited in my checking account, about 2-3 weeks ago. Probably because I receive my SS monthly payment direct deposited. I really "didn't need it" in respect to the fact that being in an ag business, I haven't lost much work either. But then I was off for over a month in Feb-Mar with my surgery, so it made up for that lost income. Still, it was nice but I don't like getting something for nothing as I always figure there is a catch.....

You can go on to the IRS website and open the area that says where is my check. Fill out the information and it will tell you if you are eligible. Then you can add your bank routing number and they will direct deposit. If you had received a income tax refund and had it direct deposited then you need to do nothing.

I am sure that you folks on here really expected me to go for the stimulus as I am very liberal. But was really surprised at the number of liberals that was ounce conservative on this board that are receiving the money and keeping it. What will I do with mine I will deposit it in savings and check it out and add some to it to pay the 2019 income tax. Money really changes peoples mind.
