That is about the only theft I've seen as well Quachita. I may just be blind though.
Seen a few employers steal from employees as well. Experienced more than one having extreme contempt for overtime, but look the other way when they know someone is working off the clock.
I worked commission for a guy that was able to reduce my production to below my base almost monthly. Magically, it most often occurred the night before payday. He spent a lot of times doing the books, and I'm pretty certain that the cash intake of the place never matched the cash deposits at the bank. He did have a really nice collections of watches, guns, and other items he kept in storage units he paid cash for- back when you could just pay cash. I believe it was his parachute for when his wife caught him with one of his girlfriends. He was a real winner and tried to ruin my reputation when I left (of which I did when I figured it all out). Took a lot of self control to not remove the pebble holding up his charade, but it wasn't for the right reason and I knew that.
Worked at another company that made a deal with lower level staff on cost control and overall profits. They set a bar- I believe 25%, whatever the business profited above that, they would profit share a small fraction. When the employees killed themselves for this extra money all year, it came time and they were going to get something like $1,500 each from $20k split among 15 people. They improved costs and production by a lot that year. After all costs, the company netted 40% of every dollar it took in. It was the most productive location out of 20 something nationwide. The CEO and CFO and some business "guru" decided that giving up 20k out of 400k was just too much. I figured I was going to lose my job, but I wasn't going to let them not pay those people for their effort. If they wouldn't have made the deal, I wouldn't have cared. But to me, that was stealing at that point.
Never regretted moving on from either of those places.
