Stealing

Help Support CattleToday:

That is about the only theft I've seen as well Quachita. I may just be blind though.

On the other hand I wonder what percentage of theft is conducted by owners. Everyone steals from themselves. I had a bar owner tell me once that if he didn't steal from himself that he would go broke paying taxes.........wait....i just realized that what he really meant was if he didn't steal from everyone else he would go broke.LOLOLOL

Seen a few employers steal from employees as well. Experienced more than one having extreme contempt for overtime, but look the other way when they know someone is working off the clock.

I worked commission for a guy that was able to reduce my production to below my base almost monthly. Magically, it most often occurred the night before payday. He spent a lot of times doing the books, and I'm pretty certain that the cash intake of the place never matched the cash deposits at the bank. He did have a really nice collections of watches, guns, and other items he kept in storage units he paid cash for- back when you could just pay cash. I believe it was his parachute for when his wife caught him with one of his girlfriends. He was a real winner and tried to ruin my reputation when I left (of which I did when I figured it all out). Took a lot of self control to not remove the pebble holding up his charade, but it wasn't for the right reason and I knew that.

Worked at another company that made a deal with lower level staff on cost control and overall profits. They set a bar- I believe 25%, whatever the business profited above that, they would profit share a small fraction. When the employees killed themselves for this extra money all year, it came time and they were going to get something like $1,500 each from $20k split among 15 people. They improved costs and production by a lot that year. After all costs, the company netted 40% of every dollar it took in. It was the most productive location out of 20 something nationwide. The CEO and CFO and some business "guru" decided that giving up 20k out of 400k was just too much. I figured I was going to lose my job, but I wasn't going to let them not pay those people for their effort. If they wouldn't have made the deal, I wouldn't have cared. But to me, that was stealing at that point.

Never regretted moving on from either of those places.

I have always been mindful of keeping a good reputation. It takes a lifetime to build, and an instant to destroy.

I know alot of people I could steal cattle from, they wouldn't find out, and they would get insurance money and probably like for them to be gone. But I am going to live where I do and be in the cattle business for the rest of my life, I'm not risking having a bad name. Then there's that whole god and bible thing that talks about how stealing is wrong, that pretty much does it for me also.

near where I grew up there was a large chemical company, biggest employer in the area, first company in the country to make a $million profit, decided to have a crack down on petty thieving, the stockrooms had to put additional shelving up to account for all of the stuff that was reappearing. Every working man in the area had ICI coveralls, whether they'd worked there or not. Trouble was this internal bleeding was going on all the time, even though there'd be periodic crack downs on it, it never really stopped. Company got broke into little pieces.

Around here about 10 years ago there were a bunch of estate sales and there were barns full of NOS of Allis Chalmers parts. Yep, they all worked there or knew someone that worked there and the stashes were huge! Probably helped the demise of that company.

Just got a call from a friend of mine, she works at the vet's. She told me that the receptionist(that has worked there for 22yrs) was caught out stealing. She handled the banking over this Christmas/New Year period as she was a trusted employee.

Why would she jeopardize her job, name and reputation after all those years, I cannot understand people....

Imagine....being called a thief for the rest of your days

My local dentist had a receptionist/bookeeper take him for about 100K. She's a good woman, and was nanny to the dentist's kids. Rumor is that her son has a gambling problem, and she kept paying his debts. That doesn't forgive her, it just explains her motive.

That right there has caused and increase in thefts all over. All these indian casinos poppin up have created alot of problems for many folks.

Went to collect some supplies from the vet today and had a good ol' pow wow with the vet(we have known each other for ages so don't think he is a blabber mouth ;-) ).

Apparently this dame has been skimming the books for the last two years  . Her husband, who was a principal at a local school, went on retirement about that time and they were always short of funds, so she decided to 'take' her share from her work place. Rumor has it that he has been known to physically abuse her, she is too terrified to tell him about this all. It seems she had everyone's sympathy, vet's have decided not to lay any charges but she will have to pay back monies....an audit is in progress.

I hope she doesn't do anything stupid with her life....

Was she prosecuted? Only reason I ask is that I've seen three or four cases of this and usually nothing happens as the guilty person was also "special" to the victim.

Yes, she was prosecuted. A little probation and she's supposed to make restitution. I don't know how she'll do that.

I worked for a guy for a few weeks doing construction while I was in college. He paid a good hourly rate, but he would short you 10 hours every check. I brought this to his attention the first and second checks, and told him goodby when the third one was short 10 hours.

yall listen to this one.. if you follow or read my post about worst hunting day ever there was a minor who was trespassing on my property that I had the game warden go see. I just got off with a good friend from another hunt club in the area apparently that same boy went and hunted with them as a guest and stole dog tracking collars and a shotgun. The boy took the gun out the guys truck put his old barrel on the gun and sold the gun to a member of the same hunt club that he stole the gun from. The owner was POED then saw another buy in his club with his gun and it created a big situation and guy whos gun was stolen out the truck gave them till today to return his gun and his correct barrel. The hunt club offered to buy him a new gun but he said no it was sentimental and he wanted his original gun and has caused alot of bs drama within the hunt club over one thieven punk ARSE kid. I want to say it again I really hate a thief. I wouldnt have gave them days to return my property they would have only had minutes before the man with the tin star came to see them. I just thought this was ironic and wanted to share with yall.

being a former retail worker .. theft is huge by employees... i worked for a local grocery store as a cashier and one day the manager pulled me aside and said my till had been $10 short every day... I told him that wasn't possible and that i made sure with each transaction that i paid attention to what was given to pay for the merchandise and what wasn't. He said he thought it was odd that it was short the exact amount everyday and that the next time i worked i was to count my till before i opened the register. The head cashier was supposed to set up all the tills and we were to check them before we opened out lane. I told him that the head cashier told me that there was never anytime for me to count mine and to just get started because she personally set up my till. The next day I got my till as usual,, but instead of going to my register i took it to the back and started counting it. She was mad and started to raise her voice at me and said," I already counted your till, now get your lane open!" I ignored her mainly because the manager was standing behind her :) I finished counting and told him that my till was $10 short and she of course said "I miscounted" So the manager went to check it himself and she tried to stop him saying she would do it for him. He didn't listen to her. And when he was done he backed me up and found out that she had been doing that to all the cashiers she didn't like to get them fired. Innocent people lost their jobs because of this prejudiced woman, yes she was black and all the people she got fired were white. Odd.. the manager demoted her and then made calls to all the former employees to find out what was the reason they had been "let go" they were all hired back last I heard with a raise in pay and making more than the old HC... I quit not long after that and went to work somewhere else. I may be a lot of things but a thief isn't one of them :) and I loved that about the $100 bill vs the pen ... that is soo true .. pens are worth more than gold in a lot of places :) * if you are ever in walmart and see an employee stealing, don't worry they keep up with who is stealing and let them keep on until it reaches felony stage.. they wont prosecute for a misdemeanor on an employee... at least they didn't when i worked there years ago, I told am anger about something I saw and they told me don't worry they were keeping records and knew who was doing it. They were stealing blankets and things like that to sell at the local flea market on the weekends. Big operation on walmarts side for sure. they had in house video of the products being stolen and then had an undercover agent taking video of the merchandise at the flea market. I need to stop lol growing up in South Florida I have million stories about theft .. It never made sense to me and if i was going to change my ways then i'm going down the river cause I went after Ft. Knox.. I mean the whole building lol nothing is stored there anymore from what i was told. So at least it was for something big.

I was working retail about 30 years ago and we caught a young woman shoplifting. As some of the other employees were leading her to the back to the manager's office, I was following along behind picking up the clothes that she had stolen and was throwing on the floor. I noticed that it was clothing for a small child. I started to feel a little sorry for her thinking she didn't have money to buy clothes for her baby until I noticed she was wearing Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. They were some high-dollar britches. I quit feeling sorry for her.
