Startin 2 strut

Help Support CattleToday:

Those pictures are from a trail cam? There not very clear are we looking through some thing like a screen?

The second picture is from some cheap camera. I think he took a picture of a picture on a computer screen.

Yep, He is already stalking his game. That is one fine Gobbler right there.

I've heard them gobbling here for a couple of weeks. Finally saw some strutting yesterday along Highway 19 past Herman.

I can tell its getting close to season because I had a guy call me last week that I haven't heard from in about a year. Come to think of it it has been right about a year because it was last turkey season that I spoke to him. Don't know but I have a hunch I'll be hearing a lot from him shortly.

Haven't seen any strutting, but the gobbling is getting something fierce.

Never had some many Turkey as this year.
Tom strutting almost in the front yard.

Notice the hen with the white. We see quite a few like that. Idk

When I was young, there was 7 toms that had quite a bit of white on them that pretty much stuck together. They were big and smart. Found out some time later that a hen from the flock had found a domestic tom at a neighbor's one year.

I assume they were fertile, but I didn't see any of the white showing up in later hatches.

Lot of strutting going on here as well. Tried to show my daughter and nephew the show. But between those two battling over who took who's stick and the bird dog, we got to see how fast they could run instead.

Looks like yall be in for some good hunting chasing those toms bf.

I don't get to hang around long of the mornings, but did hear one Tuesday. He sounded big and far off. I did see two jakes the other evening, one red headed. No hens seen in a couple of weeks.

My shotgun of choice is muzzleloader and it kicks like a rented mule.

that again for anyone.

May 8th till then nothing bigger than a 22.

Several years back, you could of gone with a .22 Magnum up here. I tried to verify this story before relaying it as fact, but from a short news cliping I found, I think it is grounded in truth.

A school buddy of mine said the reason rifles were outlawed in spring season is mostly the result of two local guys he knew. One decided to wear a red handkerchief around his neck turkey hunting, and another old boy decided that the handkerchief moving in the wind must be a Tom with the hen he could hear talking. His not verifying his target did not prevent him from hitting it.

Therefore, laws were made once more in an attempt to slow natural selection.

The article attached seems to lend corroboration with his story:

. A list of county-by-county limits and details of other regulations
governing the spring-turkey season is printed in the "1990-91
Oklahoma Hunting Regulations" brochure available at hunting-license dealers.
Turkey hunters should "keep safety the top priority of
their hunts," cautions the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.
State hunter-education coordinator J.D. Peer said Oklahomans
have a good record compared to hunters in some states but
that turkey hunting is one of the most accident-prone seasons,
so caution should be foremost.
"We had only three turkey-hunting accidents reported last
year, so hunters have been cautious," said Peer. "But
our goal is to do away with the few accidents that do occur."
Turkey hunters dressed in total camouflage and imitating
turkey sounds with various types of calls are difficult
for other hunters to see, and are easy to mistake for birds.
"In turkey hunting, mistaking a person for game is the
most common safety problem," Peer said. "No matter what
the situation, hunters must be sure that what they are shooting
at is a legal turkey."
Hunters should avoid wearing clothing in colors found on
wild turkeys - red, black, white and blue.
"Wearing blaze orange is an option worth considering,"
said Peer. If hunters don't want to wear orange clothing,
then a band of orange material wrapped around a tree above
the hunter is one suggested alternative.
