Spring must finally be getting close

I have not seen any yet....they usually display out on a hill in the pasture a good ways behind my house....sometimes have two or three toms strutting at the same time...

Thanks.. Every one of my fields I go too that we own or lease lately has had a gobbler and a ton of hens out there its crazy.

Monday Morning here we woke up to two inches of a snow sleet mixture....took me twenty minutes to clear the car off enough to go to work....I am so tired of this crap....usually I have spring vegetables up now....this year can not get them in the ground...

It's way late as I just planted here today.
I would have normally had new taters in the ground a month ago.

pdf I agree my garden is being delayed this ol gobbler must think its spring already cause hes out chasing the gals behind my barn.

They are just starting to break up around here. Still have flocks of 75 or better. Saw a handful of toms breaking off a few days ago. 3 weeks and its on.

biggest flock I have ever seen is 28.....quite a few years ago I had three hens who jointly raised a brood and they came into the pastures right around my house nearly every day....I use to be able to sit on the front poorch and watch them....they came all summer and I enjoyed them until I could not tell the mamas from the babies.....with the advent of fall hunting season they stopped coming here....and here was probably the safest place they could have gone as we don't hunt on our little piece of heaven....I am not anti hunting....but I do not wish to be associated with the trash practices that pass for hunting around here....

CF depends where I am but I have seen 3 gobblers in the same field blown up strutting its crazy and way early for all of that.
PDF we normally have about the same numbers you have.. The numbers have really blown up in the last few years atleast here.

Around here the numbers have gone down. Rarely see groups of more then a dozen or so during the winter, used to have flocks of 50 or more. Still plenty of birds, just not like it was 5 years ago or so.

In years past t wasn;t temps as much as rain. This year we're having anything from 70 to 30 in a days time. After the snow sunday it's finally warming back up into the 50s again now, lows in the teens.

I haven't seen or heard a turkey since 2005, had a small flock that lived on my place.
After hurricane Rita I never saw another turkey and they have since closed the season in my county.

they will come back. I had never seen a wild turkey in our area until 2001 or so. me and 3 other men started buying wild turkey eggs and incubating them and turning them loose. I have to think out of the hundreds of turkey we set free a pair made it and has brought them back to epic proportions.

CB, I bet they could still make it down there. I know of a flock in a suburb of Oklahoma City.

Growing up, it wasn't uncommon to have groups of a couple hundred in places. There was a time when they just about all disappeared. I don't know the cause. The state was trapping some at the time to disperse and I assume weather played a big roll, but I always wondered if there was a disease or something responsible as well.

Seems we are getting back to those numbers again. There isn't a place now without tracks on it.
