Long story....

I rent an 80 acre place 5 miles up the road. A creek (No crossing) divides it into 45 and 35 acres. Last month I prepared to spray weeds and found the water well pump wasn't working on the 45 so I grabbed the generator/welder I use to run a well that no longer has power on the 35 acre side. Wouldn't start. Carburetor gummed up so I take it in to get that fixed. Got it back Thursday and the water well guy Had the other well running so I gear up to start spraying Friday. First load (10 acres) went off without a hitch. Second load I noticed pressure issues. Finally decided the aluminum bypass valve I had to settle for earlier in the year was sticking so I make a trip to town for another. Nobody has one so I take it out and use the gate valve like did years ago before I plumbed in the bypass valve. Wouldn't you know....didn't make a difference. Head scratching and wondering if the pump went bad. Messing with the gate valves I inadvertently managed to blow the hose on the discharge Side of the pump. Pegged the pressure gage too. Lightbulb moment....intake hose was collapsing.... changed the hose and finished that load and another. Put another load out and noticed a weld breaking on a boom. Had the welder and rods on the truck on the truck to fix it but needed a come Along to squeeze everything back into place. Run to the house and get it. Got it all welded up and and another load put out. Tight in up a loose clamp while loading the 5th load and finish that side. Called it a day. Tough day but got to my stopping point.

Wife helped me move the tractor to the back side. I know I'm going to run shore of chemicals so I run to town and get it before I get started. I Should have had a half a tank left from yesterday...yeah it ran out in about a minute.... what's up with that? Loaded up and started again and I found the problem....tightening up that clamp cracked the line....So back to town for pvc fittings And home to make a new line. Good to go till I notice another crack that needs welding While loading the second load of the day. Fortunate I saw it before it failed but really.... about half way through that load I notice a front tire is awful low....back to the house for an air tank and tire plugs. Grab a tire tool just in case I need to take the tire off but the plugs fix it. I'll be dam if another weld fails on the boom...on top of that the welder runs out of gas...what the hay. It was full when I took it to the shop....oh well back up the road 4 miles for gas...and a Blue Bell Fudgesicle. Don't care about the sugar and carbs at this point. Grab a couple bottles of water too. Finish the second load of the day. Should have been finished hours ago but just finishing 20 acres. Get about an acre into the third load and the spray and pump noise just stops....The pump has come off the pro coupler. :tiphat: Fat chance I have an Allen wrench to fit it.

Yeah, I got beat today. :( It's also got me seriously thinking about letting that lease go.

Seems like I remember a song - Gloom, despair, and agony on me. Deep, dark depression, excessive misery. If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

Hope your luck turns around soon. Look at using nylon fittings instead of PVC.

Everything behind the filter is rubber hose and nylon except for 8 1/2 ft of pvc line on each boom. I'm Running 2 #10 Hamilton nozzles and get about 50 foot swath. Rebuilding the booms they are mounted on will be on the addenda now. Metal fatigue is running rampant and is becoming a major issue. I've been using this set up 5 years now. Going to all nylon, rubber and pvc in the lines behind the filter has taken care of all the nozzle issues.

Sounds like a normal day for me! Need a partner?

All jokes aside, some days just seem like nothing goes right. Some run smooth as silk. But not many. Sprayers tend to be finicky creatures by nature.

🤔 maybe not as bad as the day before. 😁

Plenty warm for sure...

and a smooth ride....NOT!

So tell me sensei.... what are you spraying in this heat? I've got a klien grass field ,a lease.
The milkweed and doveweed have snuck up on me.

Mostly ragweed but also dove weed, some greenbriers and berries, and a few Senna Bean. Bunch of other stuff too. 20 acres lie in a flood plane that went under numerous times last year. Normally would have it sprayed by now but the well and generator issues held me back. Been getting enough rain showers to keep it green so I'm going for it.

When i have a machine that starts showing metal fatigue like that i start looking for another. Flail mowers are particularly bad for it.

Going to add rebuilding the booms to the list of things to get done or either go back to a single nozzle...

Scrap all of the boom and install one of these in the middle and you can get about 50 wide swatch. I have this and it works very well.

Running two of those, #10s, now. Have them spaced about 23 ft apart. Get better coverage and overlap with 2.

I've thought about trying two number tens side by side but set to 90degrees left and right. Would that work.? Or maybe that twenty is the way to go, never seen one.
Edit.. this is on a boomless of course, not necessarily looking for a wider swath but faster ground speed.

Just off the top of my head I'd think 2 90s would put out the same as 1 full fan...but I could be wrong. Guess you could flow test a full fan and see if a 90 puts out half of that in the same time. Actually, I'm looking to slow the ground speed. These dam ant hills and hog rootings make for rough riding.

The 2 #10s put out 200 gallons in about 33 minutes.
