Well today was the day to sell all my calves. We were shooting for 600 pounders originally and did pretty good in that area had a couple late June calves. Had them consigned at a weaned/vac sell. Took in 16 total with 9 steers and 7 heifers. Here are the results:

4 blk str 591lbs 160.00C
4 blk str 659lbs 150.00C
1 blk str 370lbs 170.00C

3 blk hfr 585lbs 140.00C
1 blk hfr 595lbs 125.50C
1 blk hfr 405lbs 152.00C
1 blk hfr 500lbs 30.00C Dry Eyes
1 blk hfr 305lbs 141.00C

Not to bad my one heifer got docked for a cloudy eye and the other was a damn if I did and damn if I didn't so pretty much gave her away. Learned a lot this year wont make the same mistakes and better prepared for the medical issues that arise. Always improving the ranch and way we do things. now to deposit the check and go pay the banker.

The sale barn manager and auctioneer both said they looked good and were "FANCY" I was worried as they didn't go through till about 3/4 of the sale. But in the end came out a bit more than I was expecting.

They sold well. The mrkt is pretty volatile right now.
Everyone has one of those calves that we're glad they just made it to the sale barn.

I feel your pain, you get to hold that check just as long as it takes to drive to the bank. Then it's theirs. It's all part of starting out on your own.

Looks like you did pretty good on those steers..... We sold beginning of January the rising corn prices spooked us a little bit and the sale barn manager was advising us to sell. We caught it right as the prices dropped in our area the very next week. It's a gamble no matter what you do.

Nice looking claves good job.

I have been selling beef calves for about 20 years now and no one has explained to me what the difference between "FANCY" and "NOT FANCY" is. maybe you know or one of the other members.

Overall your prices are about 15-20 cents more than ours here. Steers running 1.40-1.55, heifers in the 1.15 -1.25 range. They seem to be up a little bit last week... hope they continue up a bit, got 30 steers and 20 or so heifers on silage now to sell when the weather looks a little more promising. This is pneumonia weather and I hate to buy or to sell if it is a snowy/rainy/cold combo.

Good job! Too bad about that heifer. Sometimes I've been glad to have a bad one because you can fatten it up and sell it to all your relatives. Whoever bought her is going to make good money on her.
