Did you scald it or skin it? My guess would be skinned it if you did this by yourself.

I wish they made a smiliy flipping the bird.
This was a white hog with a little black on it, but not dark black. It was a sow and its weight was 220. It was a very muscular hog tight muscle and not much fat. It was in heat when I killed it,I have heard things on this board and hope that doesn't effect the meat, but the local butcher makes the best sausage and I would thing it would negate most off taste? I woukld say it was Landrace HampshireX.Crowderfarms":3lljda5z said:auctionboy":3lljda5z said:i have a Ohio accent and talk very backwoods, I pronounce everything wrong and that is why my spelling is so poor. You "BONED" IT OR "DE-BONED" it?
There's a difference in technicalities here.
See Crowder comment.
I understand. Still haven't caught on to the "English Language" thing up there, huh?
That's OK. I bet Flaboy can understand ya!
I know what you mean by stunned. I have that "stunning" effect too. I'm a member of the Backwoods , but don't talk that way.
Lets get back to bonin' that hog...What breed was it?
Bar, Sow, Which one?
I skinned it and it took me a while because my hands got very cold and I was sitting on the ground. If I try it again I will build something to hang it and it will be much easier. I wouldn't want to try it in warm wheather because I take to long.Workinonit Farm":25lyyjp4 said:Did you scald it or skin it? My guess would be skinned it if you did this by yourself.

I had almost the whole thing turned into sausage, so it should be very good sausage. I was very careful about cutting out those tederloins after I found them. they came out very easy after I tried for a minute. Biscuits and gravey? sounded like something they would eat in the uk with pork.stocky":3m5dynd6 said:The best part about butchering the hog is ripping out the tenderloin and taking it into the house and slicing it and frying it up and making gravy and having tenderloin, biscuits and gravy when the butchering is finished. Here you would say, I boned out that hog. Hope the sausage turns out as good as it sounds
I told you guys. My fellow twenty something male friends would laugh if I said "bone" something but that is how we most all talk.BlackBaldyMan":3dnmfbui said:We allways say boned as well, guess you can take it either way depending on what kinda mood you are in

The tractor doesn't have a loader and the trees are all trimmed, but I did see part of the frame to the old swing set that I thought of putting back together, then it snowed two feet. If I slaughter another I will probably weld some of that stuf together.

I don't see the waste in taking off the skin with a fillet knife.backhoeboogie":2gyc5ygq said:preston39":2gyc5ygq said:Looks like you got it under way. Preston everytime I string one up the old timers stop and tell me how I am doing it all wrong. THey are fun to listen to and its good they stop. The tell me to dip it in 140 degree water and scrape it. Their quote is "nothing goes to waste but the squeal". There are folks in the county popping them out of feeders and letting them go for buzzard bait. The whole hog gets wasted regularly in those cases. In some places they bring in the helicopters to shoot them.
All I need to do is go take another one out of the pen. I can't trap them fast enough. The more that are alive, the more I have to feed. Not only once they are trapped but the wild ones too. If a herd comes through, they can go through an awful lot of hay and tear up the cow panels that are attempting to protect the hay.

You aint sure if he's grown up yet? He must've spent too much time listening to a few of the people on this site then...I'd say the kid has got more sense than Crowder, I aint never met a full grown man that'd talk about "boning" a hog in that way...I mean, i'd expect my grandchildren to bring up something stupid like that, because they are young and that's the stupid stuff they think is funny, but I wouldn't expect it from an adult
