Sky's surgery

Help Support CattleToday:

Dec 2, 2018

I was gonna ride today...but when I let the dogs out at 4:30, it was still raining..so I went back to bed....slept until 6:30, when Apache insisted that I get up...he did so by standing on me....I guess he wanted his breakfast.

I have no need for a clock as long as he is around..he knows his routine and he sticks to it..
The rain was not the only reason I did not go...Thursday morning I started a small group of heifers on a synchronization poprotocol to time breed them next Saturday afternoon. One of the heifers didn`t think much on the idea and she decided to try to run me over....let me state clearly and with as much macho bravado as I can muster, that she did not run over me.
However she did suceed in knocking me aside and banging me into a panel...I claim sucess because had I gone down I would. Have been under the feet of eleven head.

Suffice it to say that the offender...was the next animal down the chute...

Fortunately i did not have a pistol on me at the moment or we would have been eating beef all weekend.

I didn`t think there was a any damage other than my pride...but I did bang my ribs . I realize last night that I had hit the same spot where I broke a couple last winter....they are not busted this time but they sure are sore.

So the rain was a good excuse not to ride.

Not sure I could have mounted or dismounted as much as it hurts to get on the Tractor or in the truck.

So I vacuumed and cleaned a little, washed some laundry and cooked some stuff to eat this week

The I sat down in the recliner to watch tee vee and about 4:30 my four legged alarm clock woke me up to put some wood in the stove and go feed the stock.

Cows, horses, donkeys and goats all tuned up and chimed in when I stepped out the door...

Got to get an early start in the morning..have to drive to Roanoke to assist in a presentation....have lunch and drive back...the rest of our staff went up today for the VASWCD annual meeting and will be there thru wednesday..

The office should be peaceful for a day or two.

I met him in a hospital about a year ago
And why I still remember him I guess I'll never know
He'd lie there and cry out in a medicated fog,
"Here I am in this dang bed and who's gonna feed them hogs?"

"Four hundred hogs, they just standin' out there
My wife can't feed 'em and my neighbors don't care
They can't get out and roam around like my old huntin' dogs
Here I am in this dang bed and who's gonna feed them hogs?"

His face was lean and his hands were rough
His way was hogs and his nature was tough
His doctors tried to tell him that he may not live at all
But all he ever talked about was who's gonna feed them hogs

"Four hundred hogs, they just standin' out there
My wife can't feed 'em and my neighbors don't care
They can't get out and roam around like my old huntin' dogs
Here I am in this dang bed and who's gonna feed them hogs?"

Four hundred hogs comes to eight hundred hams
And that's a lot of money for a hog-raisin' man
Four hundred hogs comes to sixteen hundred feet
The market's up and there are people a-waitin' on that meat

Well, the doctors say they do not know what saved the man from death
But in a few days he put on his overalls and he left
That's all there is to this small song but waitress, before you leave,
Would you bring me some coffee and a hot ham sandwich, please?

Four hundred hogs they're just standing out there
His wife couldn't feed 'em and his neighbors didn't care
They couldn't get out and roam around like his old huntin' dogs....

Dang Sky......I'd hate to wake up in the middle of that and think Sputnik had crashed into me...... I think I'll let 'em do it the old fashioned way.

Be like Maggie OConnell's boyfriend Rick of Northern Exposure after the satellite hit him.

Come on let the robot do it. Where's your sense of adventure

Watched the robotic thing. WOW !!!!! Separating it from the liver reminded me of when you skin an animal and try to get the skin as clean as possible by little cuts along the skin as it separates from the connective tissue. That was really neat. And a whole lot less messy than cutting everything open and probably a whole lot better in the long run. I imagine the gas caused the most painful thing for a few days as the skin was stretched out. But no blood, very little chance for infection. Hope you will be up and feeling like yourself soon. Still will take a bit to get back to normal, but I think you will be glad it was done that way .
