Hi there,

I am having a problem with one of my calves. She is fifteen months old. Her symptoms are:

  • Losing weight
  • Too Fast Metabolism (the more she eats the more weight she loses)
  • Extremely bad smelling Diahorrea
  • Blood in her diahorrea
  • Very bad breath
  • No longer socialising
  • Never chews her cud
  • We had her in a different property and since she came back with the other calves she has developed this sickness/disease

Does anybody know what this is and/or how to cure it?
Please help, if she is not diagosed or cure she will have to be put down, as we have other calves with us.

Call a cattle vet .There are people on here that know a lot more about brood cows than I do and they will probably respond . Always a good place to start is by getting a temp . If over 102 treat with a good broad spectrum antibiotic .

I think it's more serious then parasites. She isn't digesting, maybe a tumor or a bad case of hardware. I doubt if she can be saved. You can get a Vet out it will add a Vet bill. But, I agree it's best to try figure out for sure what the problem is.

I am like Larry ~ better with the babies, but for sure more serious than parasites.
Do you have her seperated from the other cattle yet?
I would say you have 2 choices ~ call the vet or put her down. Soon. I think she is suffering while the decisions are being made. We can't fix this and neither can you.

Good luck!!

Call your vet. It could be anything from coccidiosis to Johnes. We haven't seen the calf and our best guesses might be extremely far off; you really need the opinion of someone who's seen the animal and can diagnose its problem.

Find information about coccidiousis and see if the symtoms match. Watch her for dehydration, make sure she is drinking well and I would call vet now!
