Anyone make SAV's sale yesterday?...The unofficial word I'm getting from the web is that the bulls averaged $12,400 and the heifers averaged $11,300.

One cow sold for $350,000... :shock: :shock:

And we keep being told the economy is bad :???: Must still be a lot of moldy money lying around... ;-)

Its the middle and lower class folks that are suffering the economy blues. Not the guy that can afford to spend $350,000 on a cow.

Do you want to go back to $200 bred cows and $40.00 fat cattle? I think that a lot of people paying good money for bulls is a good thing.

I wonder how many back room deals were made presale to run the average up :bs:, saw it alot in my breed, just saying, that would surely have to be the perfect cow to garner 300k. that is alot of embryos to sell, she must work with every thing

I was at the sale. Had a heck of a set of bulls. The thing that really impressed me about the majority of the bulls was their frame size. The vast majority were belly button height on me (6'2) so I wouldn't have called them framey. They were however stout and long! The 9969 cattle were very good, a lot of power.

Don't know if there was funny money involved or not. But it takes a whole bunch of some kind of money to get a $12,400 average out of 437 bulls! That's impressive.

the 446 cow sold to Rising K in Ohio I believe. The bulls were syndicate groups, but I couldn't get the names written down fast enough.

437 bulls and I heard that it was pretty late in the day before a bull sold for under $5,000. It sure isn't your grandpa's cattle market anymore.

Looks like the 9969s did well.

Worst EPD's I have ever seen on a AI sire, or did I imagine a -5 for CE, -1 CEM, a 5.7 BW and a .05 for Marb. Heck he makes most continentals look like well ....an Angus.

What's the attraction?

9969s I would like to have a field full of them. CE is going to be low because hes not used on heifers and i think a mature cow should handle 5.7BW. Cant say much for the marbeling. I think its his performance 917lbs 205day wt 1522lbs 365day wt, after SAV turned there data in on the bull his YW went to 138. Id like to have a bunch of my calves like that even if i have to feed them. id like to wean all day at 900. When May gets here ill use him some i sell pounds. Just my observations.

Why don't we just say he is dead right and move on. We have breeders in the Gelbvieh breed who do the same thing. It's no secret.

Theres not a cow of any modern beef breed than can wean a 900+ actual 205 w/o creep. That being said, not many can wean 900+ with creep. That in itself is what makes there numbers impressive. Sad for the direction of a maternal breed, but impressive as far as growth is concerned.
