OT, we had gotten their catalog and spoke with one of the gents that own SAV but ended up not making the sale. Too pricey for our pocketbook for sure! What did you think of the Iron Mountain sons?

After looking over the Ringmaster #'s and pedigree---For my enviromental conditions and management style- I would much prefer to use Ringmasters grand sire- Rito 707 of Ideal 3407 7075 #+13066860 or great grandsire R R Rito 707 #5770651... I have used one Rito 707 Grandson (that traced back to 707 18 times) a Rito Legacy 3R9 son---- and now am using a Rito Legacy 3R9 Grandson (that traces back over 25 times to 707)....
All the 707's demonstrate where the fast growth comes from- and the ability to convert grass to pounds- and do so without the extremes of mature size and high EPD #'s, that I fear would come from Ringmaster...( I would never even try to use a bull with EPD's like Ringmaster)

But I don't follow the drumbeat of much of the angus fad of the day...Been there before- done it- and ended up in a huge wreck which I am now working to correct..

What I think is comical- on another website where most the posters are breeding for maternal qualities - I was questioned about retaining a bull calf with a 700 lb WW- as altho he has years of maternal genetics in his bloodlines- it was thought by some to be too BIG and too extreme of growth to make good cows :???: :lol2:
But each has to do what works best for themselves...

Id like to start a poll: who here believes that a 6 month and 3 weeks old calf can weight 986? I personally don't believe any calf can do/ or has ever done thats. That's over 4.8 POUNDS PER DAY from birth. no way! JMO

Oh i figure it could happen. I am sure a few lbs of feed now and then helped the calf over the rough spots.

There are several that are 4.4 WDA on the sale. Have to make sure you are looking at the right dates and weights.

Need to subtract birth weight from ww also. Its still exceptional but not impossible. Good genetics and good grass can do some amazing things.

Red Bull Breeder don't be jealous because your cattle can't do that, evaluate your program to see what improvements could be made. Perhaps buying a SAV bull? :)

Fullblood limosine should be getting big weights, not Angus. Tell em to stop using the word "creep" . Around here "creep" is a 12-14% pellet. Those bulls been on a high energy feedlot ration.

More than one way to put weight on calves Massey, calves getting all the feed they want with momma on high powered forage like Justa always talks about will get some big weaning weights. Problem i found with that is my bull buyers ain't gonna treat them that nice. Wind up with a train wreck.

Whats the protocol for weighing bulls, is there a standard curfew time to empty them out? 5% on 900lbs is a 45lbs loss, its not much but it can be more than 5% at times. I think it would be interesting to know.
It really doesn't sound very sustainable to feed young bull like they must be. Having said that, a good friend of mine tells me guys used to come up to him and make comments about his bulls being too fat before the sale then turn around pay the $$ for the same bulls.
I wonder how fat those young bulls are and what level of stress it puts on their whole body, particularly joints?

Don't know about all that old man emu i just know that one off them bull down here in my part of the world would look like a rack of bones by the july got here. My be alright if he lived the the next summer.

:nod: Make them fat and they fall apart as soon as they hit the real world. They can't go from soda pop and candy bars to healthy food plus a full time job without having some major metabolic changes/problems along the way. The stupid thing about it is that the genetics are the same whether he's soggy or in working condition and yet so many insist on making them soggy just to prove that they can. :roll: The customer is the one that loses.
