sorry I was not saying anything about anyone elses child just my own, I would never bad mouth another child. I did not mean to get personal, I was just stating a point of how I found things to be.. I raised a girl on my own for 7 years before I married my second husband, with no trouble at all. and he raised a boy and a girl on his own, also with no trouble, it seems the way of the times we live in today. but enough said of that now. point taken.

Chrissy, you misunderstood me, or maybe I did not say it in the right way. I was meaning that I did not want to step on your toes about your children! Was talking about children in general and did not want to turn conversation good or bad into your children and upset you. Nothing more scary than the scorn of a women when saying something negative about the fruits of their loin.

I hear this kind of talk all the time about how punishment should be legal in school and how we should go back the old days of paddles. The problem is, this is the best way to handle somebody elses child but not our own.

I can't tell you how many times I have heard parents change their position on this type of punishment when their child was facing it.

I agree and I have had my child paddled, has anyone else????

I've been paddled by people other than my folks and am glad it happened. If it wouldn't have it would have showed me taht I could get away with things when my parents were gone.

Kids ought to be paddled. Every person I've ever met that was actually paddled and disciplined is 20 times the person these spoiled rotten brats are that run around these days.

I have talked to our principal and tried to get him to paddle my kids when bad, offered to sign a release form or something. They just look at me like I am crazy. They can not believe I want them to spank them when bad.

As far as these kids in Riverton, I doubt spanking in school is the problem. But I am sure lack of Spanking at home play es a big part in this mess.

My youngest son has a tale about when he was in high school and left the school at lunch and got caught.

When he went to the principal's office and the princepal was on the phone. when he got off the phone he told my son that he just got through talking to me on the phone.
Son said he knew right then he had a whipping coming from the principal.

you have not steped on on my toes I can take anything about that boy I have heard it all before, I am thick skinned about him, but will defend him to the end if needs be, as any mother would. I can take criticisum about him and act accordingly, as I know he was bad. The truth hurts but if you don't take it on board there is no hope, that unfortunatly is the case in many situations the parents say no not my child. and wont have it, I listened and took on board what was said and acted on it promtly, everyone says now what a great kid he is. I don't want pats on the back I was doing what I feel all good parents should, help their Kids and get them back. No one was born bad, they turn bad, if left unchecked.

In the end the most important thing is what kind of men and women they become, because one thing is for sure kids can and will do some stupid stuff. I never remember doing stupid stuff like that though, not sure how they all got so stupid all of a sudden ;-)

When and Where I went to school they hardly ever called your parents when you were bad, they just busted your butt. I liked it that way, I would even be willing to take some wupins I might not have deserved, just to keep it hush hush from my dad. :D

I almost feel bad for my son now, he has to get punished at school and then ten times worse at home. Because they always send a slip home and call, we got a right up sent to our house one time because he farted in class ( cut him some slack on that one though :D ). At times I wish for his sake he could just take care of it at school like I was able to.

I'm 28 now, and paddling was a big issue when I was in elementary school.. It was still allowed, technically, but a lot of teachers were catching flak from parents if they did it..

Anyway, I was being a brat once (talking, etc) in 4th grade, and my teacher -- well known among students for paddling -- decided on a little corrective action.. She grabbed her paddle and marched me out of the room into the hallway.. I was petrified! Once outside the class, she shut the door, knelt down to my level and asked me, very nicely, if I would straighten up without a paddling.. I promised to, of course, and what happened next was something she made me promise to keep a secret....

She stood, picked up her left foot, and whooped the snot out of the sole of her shoe -- grinning the whole time! After 8 or 10 good wallops on her shoe, she told me to get a real sour look on my face so nobody would know what happened, which I could barely do as I was trying to contain my own amusement, and then she opened the door to the classroom.. Having heard the commotion, all the other kids were scared to death..

Later on, of course, everybody wanted to know how bad it was, and I played right into it telling them what a horrible, mean witch of a woman she was -- knowing full well that she was actually super nice.. From that point on, I felt like a "partner in crime" with that teacher.. Like we were on the same side of something, and that she trusted me.. I never disrespected her again.

Sorry to ramble on so long, it's just that all this talk of paddling and discipline brought back this great memory and I just had to share it with somebody. :)
