Last year I planted a row of Boysenberries. They are part Blackberry, part Raspberry and part Marion berry. They are trellised on 2 wires. You let the first year canes grow, they don't make berries and you wind them on the first wire of the trellis. The second year they bear and you wind those on the second wire, bringing up the first year canes to the lower. This year I will get boysenberrys, see if all this work is worth it.
Invasive Himalayan blackberries in Oregon take over entire pastures. Every year I have the blackberry wars. Chopping down, stump painting and just straight spraying herbicide. I have it controlled in pasture 2 and 3. The river side of pasture one is my next line of attack.
The blackberry bloom season is the major honey flow of bees here. My 'employees' make huge amounts of honey off them. I make huge amounts of jam off them before I cut them down.
