Has anyone else been having trouble buying range cubes ? At our local feed store they said that purina has cancled all of their feed contracts.

Joy a good friend was told the same thing when he went to his local Purina dealer to buy cubes. Seems the primary protein source in cubes (cottonseed meal) has gone up from $200 per ton to $400 per ton and apparently Purina did not cover themselves by booking the needed ingredients. Rather than honor their contracts and lose money they choose to just cancel them. That's not unusual for them as they've done it in the past. Feed stores can get the cubes but have to pay today's price rather than the contracted price.

Not here as the they make all there own feed, I have never thought about the range cubes as it comes in our locals sack as well. I will have to ask on that one. I know they have a heck of a feed mill.

Purina makes the TSC feeds but as big as TSC is they probably are honoring the contract they have with them. Bet the price is up tho. Seems to be the story everywhere. I paid 6.50 per bag for 20% breeder cubes Saturday and have heard of prices as high as 9.00. Hard to believe. :cry2:

Oh yes the price has definitely gone up. We had already paid for a ton of cotton seed cubes a hair over 300.00. One of the guys at the feed store said that they have gone up over 400.00 a ton.TexasBred":68deerdj said:

Yeah I can believe that since the meal has gone up so much. I'm surprised your able to get cottonseed cubes at any price. Burns your a$$ tho when a contract means nothing to a company.

do they also make the "Blue Bonnet" brand that tsc carries? i have tried their tsc lable brand and have tried the pilgrims pride brand and my cows will walk off and leave it, wont tuch it, i have seen it just disolve on the ground, and i do not feed that often or very much just enough to keep em interested, but the blue bonnet they wil not leave a scrap laying around, havent bought any in a while but was getting ready too, may go to a feed instead if prices are too high

I buy range cubes pretty regular from Purina, and this is the first I hear of this rumor. This sounds very strange.

Ok, the Bluebonnet brand is made by Bluebonneet Feeds out of Oklahoma. They make good feed but are a little pricey sometimes.

OK, but I am finding very hard to believe that Purina, above all brands, is experiencing a shortage on range cubes.

It's a real deal......mainly on the hi protein cubes. CSM pretty difficult to get.

Red Chain feeds in Gorman, TX is experiencing cotton seed shortage also. The word around here is that the gins are getting every drop of oil out of the cotton seed that they can. It's amazing that Texas has produce a record amount of cotton this year and we are in this situation! We feed about a ton of cottonseed cake a month and we are fixing to change to a milo base feed. Well,just called our regular feed store. Cotton seed cubes are now 8.35 a bag. 2 weeks ago they were 6.17 Asked to see if they were going to have ant this weekend. The only answer he could give me is hopefully. Asked if they any in stock now....no

2007 U.S. cotton acreage was down by about 30% and although yield per acre improved the total crop was still down considerably from 2006 -- I think it was down about 12% if my memory is correct. Lot's of cotton ground in my area has been lost to concrete and houses, but of course the main reason (I assume) has to be the switch over to grain planting, especially corn. As we all now know, there are sure a lot of side effects to the ethanol business (boondoggle?) that probably were not fully anticipated a year or two ago by the powers that be!

I do believe you hit the nail on the head. I was not saying purina was in short supply of cubes. I said they canceled their feed contracts. Which means the feed company we buy our cubes from ,cannot get the cottonseed meal they need to make cubes.TexasBred":bnm6mvmv said:

Cotton seed cubes are hard to come by around here at any price the local mill caint get any cotton seed,one of the reasons I went back to lick tanks this year................good luck
PS $260 a ton for purina super lik,aint all bad,especially with the low quality hay all over Texas this year.
