I was wondering what kind of setup is there to raise a cow up? what kind of home made object is there.
Is there something on the Market to purchase to raise cows?

Lots of us here raise hundreds every year. Nothing to it. Just give them feed and water.

Seriously, take an old baler belt, make some straps and place under belly, then raise her up with your front end loader.

There's another type that clamps to the hip bones but I have no idea where to get one or what it's called.

Tg,

What prompts you to ask how to raise or lift a cow? What's going on?

I think Tg's got a heifer that had a calf pulled that is still down.

Get her up Tg.

tell me if this would work, why or why not? assuming you had a cow that wanted to get up. why couldnt you just take the front end loader with the attachment that picks up pallets and just slide it under her armpits and udder and lift her. would that be too much pressure underneath her?

(no down cows here.)

A little too easy to spear the cow in the process... yes it's happened before. (Not my cow and not my driving, FWIW. :P)

with pallet forks ?!?

This one really threw me off for a second, especially when he started talking about devices. I got to thinking if he ment something like a farrowing crate or something like that. I am glad that mikec posted or I would have started to wonder about old tg.

Yes, with pallet forks. Think about the force the tractor can exert, even in low drive. Make a mistake with placement, or if the cow shifts, and that cow is skewered! Not to mention the fact that there is nothing to keep her from flailing about, sliding off the pallet fork, and sustaining even worse damage in the resulting fall.

Never tried to raise a cow myself.... I figure if they stay down, somethings wrong... they are sick... or gonna die. In that case.. I give them the meds they need if I know what is wrong, or they just die. Otherwise, I wouldnt try to raise them up. Now with calves that were down, I have used some rope.. old "gunny sacks" and hoisted them up under their bellies, until they were strong enough to stand on their own.

Years ago, I had one paralized from trying to birth a calf. (Long story, got got in woods and I could not find her in dark). I used the front lift on the tractor and a couple of the 4" wide straps that truckers used to hold their loads. Put one strap under the chest up close behind the front legs, the other strap under the hips in front of the rear legs. Had the cow up all day but it could not put any weight on the rear legs or even control the legs. I called the Vet, he came out an checked her but there was nothing he could do. She ended up being hamburger.
