Rain

Well I have recieved about eight inches in the last month and have a couple in the gauge right now and it is still coming down. All the stock tanks are full and had to open the drains in the bottom pastures I damed off two years ago.
We have had more rain so far than we had all of last winter at least the aquafier is getting recharged.

Hope the rest of ya'll being effected by the drought are being as well blessed.

Glad your getting some. The rain has been going around us for the most part. Got almost 2/10ths yesterday, most the ponds are down about 3ft. The drought was bad last year, and if we don't get some rain it's going to be tuff. Still no place I would rather live, and by the way Merry Christmas.

We got 3.5 inches Tuesday . 2 inches so far last night and this am. 15.5 inches in 6 weeks here . Ponds are over the banks and the ground is soggy . I'm not complaining though . Let it rain i can sit by the fire and watch football for the next 2 week for all I care . I need a vacation anyway . Merry Christmas everyone and I hope everyone is blessed with rain .

Got a tad last night, ten inches since Oct.5th. Most creeks and ponds around here are still dry or way low. Everything has soaked in.

Sun shining brightly this morning. It all stayed south and east of me, but glad for you guys. Total of .75 on Tuesday but they are giving light rain and snow on Saturday. Every little bit helps!

We had between 2 and 3 inches in Bastrop /Lockhart area last night. We might make the winter now on rescue grass and clover.
Cattle I got in feed pen are in mud,most dont know how to act in mud,never seen it before!

I am glad you are getting rain and I am not. Our normal reainfall for the month of December is about 10 inches. Which does us no good at all as it is about 35 degrees so nothing is growing anyway. It just makes for mud. So far this December we are under 0.25 inch. It is just cool and dry. The cows are looking good and I haven't been having to wear rain gear to feed.

Mosy of my stock tanks are full. Just a couple of months back I was hauling water to cows.

3 new calves on the ground this week. Oats look good. Wheat and rye too. It almost didn't get planted. Sunk some posts and the ground was wet all the way down.

Cattle prices are up too.

Things are looking up here as well CB.

Got 2/10ths earlier in the week and 1 3/10ths last night.....still haven't caught runoff water to amount to anything but the ground is :shock: muddy :o this morning.....Looks a lot more promising than it did 5 weeks ago. Winter grasses are green......and growing. Cows are going off the hay........... :banana: ............should have some oats good enough to graze in a few weeks. From here we shall have to wait and see.

I've never seen it like this in December, green green green! I've had 11 inches since the first week in Nov. ponds are full and the cows are eating 1/3 their normal ration of hay for this time of year. Lots to be thankful for.

Amen brother I have more grass than I had in July. We have recieved more rain from Oct till now than we did last fall,winter and spring.

I never thought I'd say this but I wish it was about 10 degrees colder here. I'd rather have 25 degrees and snow anyday over the 35 degrees and rain we've been getting. Being cold and wet and dragging 10 pounds of mud around on each boot is getting old for me. But on the positive side I haven't used much firewood yet this year!

Speaking of firewood! All that hickory I brought over from East Texas that wouldn't burn last year is dry as a bone now. That gas company laid over those huge hickory trees when the gas line went in. I cut them up, hauled them home, split them, and they weren't much good. They had laid two years so I figured they were cured. Those cords sat out there were stacked throughout the drought. No wood cutting for me this winter.

Speaking of firewood! All that hickory I brought over from East Texas that wouldn't burn last year is dry as a bone now. That gas company laid over those huge hickory trees when the gas line went in. I cut them up, hauled them home, split them, and they weren't much good. They had laid two years so I figured they were cured. Those cords sat out there were stacked throughout the drought. No wood cutting for me this winter.

Hickory burn's hot and long makes fine firewood. Pain in the butt to split.
I laid a big Red Oak down the other day and put it in the burn pile we haven't lite the fireplace this year.
Today is the first time I have seen our typical winter weather mid 40's and drizzling rain.

Drove over to Madisonville today to see the kid's from Groveton west on Hwy 287 it was dry compared to us.

Its crazy how just a few miles make such a difference when it comes to things like rain. I really believe we're getting this thing turned around though.
