How long does it take for the boar flavor to go away?

Had a vet one time who told a funny story about having to castrate a large boar hog way up on the side of a mountain where he could not drive up there the hog was in a short and cramped pen and in general it was very difficult job. As soon as he was finished the owner shot the hog.

He asked the guy if you were going to shoot him then why did I just go thru all that?

The guy said he had been told that you had to castrate a boar hog before you could eat it.

Vet said it was all he could do to keep from castrating the guy. He just charged him double and walked down the mountain to his truck.

A mule was found dead beneath a power line and power company man called a vet to determine the cause of death. Vet had to go post it. Mule had been dead some time, was swollen and stinking.
While vet was covered with rotten mule guts and the odor, the power company man at a safe distance away shouted,I wouldn't do that for $200 (or what ever the number was at the time).

Vet shouted back, "I wouldn't either".

8 weeks. Best eating you've ever had then. Way better than anything you can buy at the store.

You get a noose around their snout behind the cutter teeth on the closed end of the trap, pull the rope through the top, get some wraps around the uprights and tie it off. His hind end is pointed towards the guilotine door. Tie the right leg off on the right side and the left leg off on the left side. It is best to tie one front foot off just in case too. (yep I am a fraidy cat)

Its nothing like cutting pigs. The hide is as tough as boot leather at that age. Jewels are bigger than your fist and he's going nuts the whole time.

Put the guilotine door back on, pin it down. Untie him in reverse order. Get a wire on the snout noose in order to pull slack in the loop. Loosen off the snout noose and get your rope off. Put the guilotine door against the pen trap door. Open the doors and "let him go" into the pen. Close the doors and haul the trap back to the location.

Takes longer to type this out than it does to do the deed.

Hogs over 200 pounds fetch a lot of nickels at a licensed buyer. Most buyers don't take anything under 100 pounds. They claim they make no money by the time they pay hired help to process the little ones.

Normally I don't castrate the big boars. This one is a special order. Gonna notch an ear to mark the date. Got another one in the pen that's 5 weeks in.

Unless hogs are going to a licensed buyer, they have to leave my place field dressed. No exceptions. People selling illegal to "game preserves" ought to be given a life sentence right after they are tarred and feathered. GAme preserves are what got us here.

Expressing disgust over folks selling illegally to game preserves got me banned over at Texas Boars. I was a member there years back. That one folded and took off again twice. The new folks running it are all about commercial sells of hog baits and hunting commerically. The cattle folks who used to share removal hints are all gone.

We have a guy that bought a night vision scope and he has been extremely effective on them. He will shoot one and the rest will run into the woods only to return several minutes later. He's been getting 8-10 a night. I know I shouldn't covet but man do I want one of these. Do you think a tool like this would be tax deductible?

Love to have one myself but the price scares me.

Neighbor to the north on the river has had her grandson down there over a month trying to snipe hogs at night. She spent a lot of nickels on a night scope rig. He's sat out there for hours over the pastures and never seen a hog yet. Had several buddies with him from time to time. I've got a couple of traps over there. Caught 8 pigs, 6 sows, 2 boars, 1 raccooon, and three white tail there. We've let the white tail go with no incident. Had two in the trap one a.m.

Top ones are barely out. Maybe 2 inches. Lower teeth are around 3 inches. He aint all that great but he'll do. Probably around 200 lbs. He, trap and all went on a little lawnmower trailer. Stopped and got a drink at the little corner store on the way out. EVERYONE wanted to talk about him. He was jumping up and biting the cage on all sides. Most of the folks there hadn't seen one before. Thought he was a bad dude.

Has anyone seen the thermal imaging scopes. One of the predator hunting shows on tv showed using both night vision and thermal imaging scopes. They said on the darkest of nights that the night vision will not always work. They apparently need some light, although very little, to magnify. They were hog hunting.

I had trapped some and innoculated them with a 22LR, as I was removing them from the trap one wasn't as dead as I like. Also do not feed french fries to young rooters you are fattening up, another story.

The night visions scope are productive but not the only way to do it. If you have the money laying around definatly get one. If not invest in a good scope, rifle, and spotlight. With a good scope you can shoot hogs in the moon light.
