Went to the south ranch to feed and check cattle, and while searching for a momma cow that calved,I came upon more hogs than I have ever saw in my life in an open field with woods on each side. The field was just covered with them.I could not even began to say how many were out there. The problem is way over half were little piglets chasing their mother.

We have a guy that bought a night vision scope and he has been extremely effective on them. He will shoot one and the rest will run into the woods only to return several minutes later. He's been getting 8-10 a night. I know I shouldn't covet but man do I want one of these. Do you think a tool like this would be tax deductible?

Depends on how good your tax man is!!! :o

Sounds to me like if you're using it to protect your property from devastation, why not?

Love to have one myself but the price scares me.

Cal, of all the people I know I think you are the most deserving of a top of the line night vision scope. Your favorable demeanor, quick wit and just all around good nature makes me just think you owe it to yourself to get one. Hey, its only money and money for a useful tool at that. Yes, you most definitely owe it to yourself to get one.

BTW ~ would this be something you'd be willing to loan out to a buddy?!?

This little piece of kit will work on all but the darkest nights.
Compeletly passive incase you want to hunt something that will hunt you back.

And NO batteries! Suggest you get a pro to mount it though.

Way I got it figured since I have 8 rifles 30 cal and above and I alternate using them it would only make sense to put on of these on each rifle. That would be a grand total of $9,792.
Shouldn't be much of a step for a stepper.

Jo I had the little woman to read this thread, and for some reason she didn't agree with you.
But I do think you're right.

A friend and I do have an Idea on how to create a hog slaughter though.
We're going to build a large trap about 100yds diameter, and feed the hogs in for about three weeks, getting them used to coming in.Then when we're ready set the trap door.
Since he has the permit and owns several full auto's we will show up early in the morning and go for the kill.
Now what can be more fun than that?
And by the way we do have a lot of them black clean up birds.
We've had this plan for sometime and it's getting closer to the making.

You will lose friends in here if you don't get some video!

Second thought, maybe not a good thing to have float the internet.Friends of pigs groups will be outraged!

Maybe we got her thinking in the right direction anyway.

Your trap idea sounds great but you can also use a set of one way doors made out of cow panels. If you construct it in a heart shape manner the doors can be betweein the lobes. The pigs can walk in and get trapped but can't get out. With food and water they will attract more and they won't be all upset.

I think if you buy a dozen you get one free. Tell em ALX sent ya!

Cal the hogs are now hitting me about once a week. Seems they are in to the "mob grazing" thing but it is mob rooting. I pinned the door open on my traps last week when the company sent me off on a boondoggle. Came back and found they had rooted all through the traps. Reset the trap doors and haven't had even a track yet. Since I haven't relased a white tail in over 6 weeks now, I probably should have just left the traps set. Didn't want to take that chance tho with the game wardens.

The pastures are wet as all get out and the hogs have ripped up a few of them.

Got a list of people who really want a hog. The page is full. Had a pen full 10 days ago and started calling. Went through 8 names before enough people were willing to come and get them all.

This won't help your problem much but I saw a show on the TV last night about a fella who was using some kind of GREEN flashlight to shoot hogs at night from a blind.

He was shooting them behind the ear with a .......................17 HMR............... Dropped the suckers like they were hit by lightning out to 100yds. I would have never thought that little pea shooter would do that and I think they will do a lot.

BIL just called. Got a trophy boar in one of my traps on the leased pasture. Long cutter teeth and "thick". Its going to be fun castrating that dude. :D :D :D I am sure I will have an audience. This one will make me a few nickels.

Looks like I had visitors during the rain night before last. Didn't do much besides root thru the cowpatties. Must be a bunch of young ones.

I don't know much about hogs so I am going to ask the stupid question. Why "cut" him. Why not just kill him.

was wondering the purpose of castrating him, myself.

does a trophy boar then become a trophy wild barrow?
