Problem or Opportunity

I think I have a problem but maybe not. One of my neighbors (about a half mile away) seems to be a "rescuer" of creatures and keeps collecting cats. I haven't a clue how many cats she has but its a bunch and her herd keeps growing since she doesn't get the animals fixed. Apparantly she doesn't feed them enough either since the overflow has again worked its way down to my house and they are eating our cat food - ours are all fixed. Before, I had a simple solution but my wife - a cat lover - didn't like my idea so I agreed to let her handle it. She decided to give them away. After months of giving she was feeding nearly a 50# bag of cat food a week and I couldn't count the cats and kittens in the yard much less the ones that scampered up the road back to the neighbor's house. I really don't want to see this repeated so I either have a problem or maybe ya'll can help me turn this lemon into lemonade. I was kinda thinking that since giving them away didn't work maybe selling them would. So I'm figuring if each board member would buy one or two I could possibly buy a new grain drill with cash - assuming of course that none of you stuck me with a bad check. Of course if any of ya'll bought one I'd offer free deliver with a modest handling fee of course. Or do you think I'd be better selling them on e-bay or craig's list? Or is there another solution I've overlooked besides what worked so well last time. I would again like to see quail running in my yard.

There's only two things that knock down a cat population. Trapping and relocating(to heaven) and or a few real good Foxes. I have seen the local cat ladies pride of cats whitled down to almost nothing over the last two years by a big ole red fox. There are a few surviving adults but the kittens go like hotcakes(pun intended)

You could also call the local authorities and file a complaint and let them handle it. That would at least take you off the hook.

Quail as a species are highly preferable to cats................................no?

A friend of mine was in a similar position as to feeding cats. People (town people) would bring unwanted cats out to the country and dump them. They would invariable end up and his house. He would feed them and for some reason they would just stay and multiply.
He was complaning about all these cats and didn't know what to do.
I suggested extermination, but he said he just couldn't do that. I told him if he would get a large pasteboard box, round the cats up, and put them in the box and let me know when he was going to be gone for awhile, then I would eliminate his problem for him.

He declined my offer and said he was going to gather them up and take them some distance away and put them out.
So the real problem not only continues, but escalates. Go figure.

Jogeephus, do you want to put them in a box and let me know when you are going to be gone?

I can't help it, I have absolutely no affection for a cat, though I've had a few on the place. At least you can tell a dog to "git over there and lay down" and they'll mind. As long as they do there job, stay outside, and don't rub on me, they are fine. I'm afraid any advice I could give, would bring PETA down on me, and you if you followed it, so I'll just keep it to myself.

Jo I have an Aussie and a Blue heeler that will help with your situation you can have the heeler but I want the Aussie back

I couldn't report my neighbor cause she sincerely means well. She just doesn't understand that she is really creating a much greater problem by "helping". I know what I have to do but I don't neccessarily look forward to it.

Chows are known cat killers, but they usually won't harm the ones in the family. :D You made the mistake of feeding them, once they know where the food is, they won't leave. Quit feeding them, and/or get a Chow. If you stop feeding them the mice population will go down when they get hungry. ;-)

Jogee, I have a couple of suggestions 1. switch cat food over to mini chunks dog food, they'll eat if they get hungry. 2 get a Siberian Husky, we had quite a few cats and I always thought that if you had the cats first the puupy would grow up to be ok with cats. this little husky pup grew up and killed every one of those cats.

Not much help with the grain drill.

No, no, no........you are going about that wrong....... the felines are "FREE", just pay a "small" handling fee and postage. :mrgreen: PS - easy 3 payment plan available. :D

Feline population pretty much stays in check around here due to coyotes and truck radiator fans....

That's good idea! Wait until this fall- winter , skin em out and sell the fur to the gals ( Moonlite and Angrie) up north. Market the meat to Mexico for tacos. On second thought the gals of the north might want the meat also. They got real weird tastes. :roll:
