born: Prince Rogers Nelson in Minneapolis, Mn.
I forgot how big 5' 2" Prince truly was once upon a time on the music scene.
Born in the same year as Madonna and Michael Jackson, Prince was #1 in the world for records sold for the entire '80s
decade. He was nominated for 32 grammy awards winning 7 he also won 4 MTV awards 1 Golden Globe and 1 Oscar.
Not bad for being the guy who opened a concert for the Rolling Stones in 1981 and was booed off the stage.
(amazing that Keith Richards out lived him) Proof that Prince was ahead of his time, he wrote "1999" in 1982 :)

He was an incredibly talented musician. Rolling Stone ranked Prince 27 on the list of 100 greatest artists.
Professional guitar players have called Prince 1 of the 10 greatest guitar players of all time.
Pianists have stated he was even better on the piano than guitar.
Studio musicians recall him picking up their own instruments and playing them better than anyone in the room.
On his first album Prince is credited with playing 27 instruments.
He was reputed to have wickedly good basketball handling skills, with a killer outside shot and never miss lay ups.
Over 100 million in record sales Prince is #1 all time in his genre of Funk ahead of #2 Stevie Wonder and 36th over all
behind Neil Diamond and ahead of Kenny Rogers and Bob Dylan.

A prolific songwriter he wrote and gave away more than a dozen songs that hit the charts for other musicians.
He was about to give "Little Red Corvette" away to another when his agent stopped him and convinced him to record it for himself. He frequently did $10 dance parties for up to 200 people at his own home and surprise free appearances around Mpls. with local muscians. Rules to attend a $10 Prince home dance party were no alcohol, no smoking and no swearing allowed, he was considered a good neighbor by those around him. Current speculation is his death will be ruled percocet related as it had been previously reported he was in need of hip replacement surgery which he refused due to his Jehovah Witness beliefs having converted 15 years ago.
The last song he ever performed in concert the week before his death was "Purple Rain"

I know nothing about this person except what I've read after his death. What sticks out the most to me is he was born, raised and died in the city. RIP

The guy was a talent without question. Maybe his music wasn't for everyone. I liked a lot of it.

Obviously I don't know him, but I do respect the fact he did things his way.

Not my style but he was talanted no doubt. And for the most part stayed out of trouble . unusual it seems for successful musicians.
I read he used to play ping pong regularly with Michael Jackson. Prince would always win because Michael was scared of the ball hitting him in the face. ...seriously

He even inspired others. Though both Motely Cru and Sting claim they were the inspiration for Dire Straits 1985 biggest hit "Money For Nothing" Prince was the most likely at least in part with his MTV videos and his personna.

Now look at them yo-yos thats the way you do it
You play the guitar on the MTV
That ain't workin' thats the way you do it
Money for nothin' and chicks for free
Now that aint workin thats the way you do it
Lemme tell ya them guys aint dumb

He was very talented and very intelligent. Much more so than many gave him credit for.

Pur-ple Rain.... Pur-ple Rain
:) That's the only part of the song I know.
I never meant to cause you any sorrow
I never meant to cause you any pain
I only wanted to one time to see you laughing
I only wanted to see you laughing in the purple rain

Pur-ple Rain, Pur-ple rain, purple rain, purple rain,
purple rain - purple rain
I only wanted to see you bathing in the purple rain

I never wanted to be your weekend lover
I only wanted to be some kind of friend
Baby, I could never steal you from another
It's such a shame our friendship had to end

Purple rain - purple rain - purple rain - purple rain - purple rain - purple rain
I only wanted to see you - Underneath the purple rain

Honey, I know, I know, I know times are changing
It's time we all reach out - for something new - that means you too
You say you want a leader - But you can't seem to make up your mind
I think you better close it - And let me guide you to the purple rain

Purple rain, Purple rain
Purple rain, purple rain
If you know what I'm singing about, Raise Your Hand
Pur-ple rain, Pur-ple rain I only want to see you in the purple rain

Unrequited Love?
And my guess for Purple Rain - waste water run off from a beet factory? :???:

There is a youtube video of him, Michael Jackson and James Brown on stage. Pretty amazing.

Purple Rain is in the old "Ventura Highway" song. Most of my generation relate purple rain to the lyrics in that song back when.

I had heard of prince. I had heard his music. Not much more. But atleast they're tearing up the television with a name I know who it belongs to now.

He was a pretty fair businessman. Fought a long battle with his record label.
Maybe drugs killed him, but I say veganism killed him.
You might be on the right track John.

Initial leaked reports say perocet found in his system along with a dangerously Low Level of Red Blood Cells
It will still be weeks before the official results will be released but...
.
Sounds like just a few ounces of beef liver and onions once a month could have done him a world of good.
(I love Beef Liver and Onions)
