Church i went to as a kid has an outhouse. Think they did a restroom around 2000. Rocky ground was the challenge im sure.

I never had water in the house or an inside bathroom until I was drafted in 1968. Mom and dad never had water in the house until they both passed in there mid nineties. They were very content on the farm and they lived a very contented life. It is hard to miss what you never had.

When I bought my place in Arkansas I expected some folks that lived in the woods without electricity or maybe plumbing. And we found plenty over the years. But the one that was the most back woods was a guy that ran a sawmill to make a living, and built a shack with visqueen and slab wood to live in, and wore his clothes until they were so dirty that they were falling off... and then he'd throw them on the slab floor and he'd sleep in them. And after a couple of years I found out that he was from California...

I can’t. I’m too chicken ****. I went down there knowing the gate was locked on the county road side, so I drove in from the back side.

In the woods, this sleet/ice mix is still slicker than owl ****. I’m past climbing fences/gates, and my aunt with the key is too far away for today.

If this idea had presented into my pea brain a year ago, I’d have went like a bold fool. I’ve decided to wait until this ice melts because I can’t afford another fall.

I will get some pictures soon. Maybe we can add outhouses to one of the photo contest?

There was an out house thread some time back. I put a pic of the old one on the farm there. As well as the oldest out house still in operation at a post office in Fairmont Oklahoma!

A friend sold an 8 year old 2010 lb bull today for $2.29. He couldn't believe how well it sold. I told him today was the day but who knows. Another snow and they could get higher but sunshine and 60° will hurt the price because many more will be available.

Just the opposite here, @kenny thomas ... prices were off this past week with the ice and snow... not alot available and not alot of interest in feeders especially. Son said that he could have/should have bought some steers and bulls in the low 5 wt range for about $.50-75 LESS per pound than what they had brought 2 weeks earlier just before the ice and snow...
Cull cattle were about the same.
We are taking 2 cull open old cows, that have been on feed/silage for about 4-6 weeks... this coming week when we go to the monthly bred cow sale... they sell baby calves and cull cows/bulls on Wed...have everything on their regular sales on Sat.....so have a once a month bred cow sale, and fat cattle on a different Wed and a dairy replacement sale another Wed..... Wed is a good sale day, as most everything cull goes on a truck, is in Pa and killed by Friday... this way they also utilize the help they have at the stockyard. Many dairies in the Rockingham county area, and many bring in their cull dairy cows to the Wed sale. There is another stockyard about 15 min from this one that has regular sales on Thursday...

Our townhall here in the rural "outskirts of Rochester, MN" still has an outhouse and no indoor plumbing. We've been discussing the needs of the township... lots of times can't get as many people in the tiny room as come to a meeting (particularly if there's something going on), not handicapped accessible AT ALL, residents with a cane, or a walker, and for sure those who might have a wheelchair could never begin to get up in there... When there's something going on, we'll have people standing in the entryway, on the steps getting up to the "old one room schoolhouse meeting room", and lined up outside... eventually most of them just end up leaving, because they can't get in on the conversation anyway... Population of the township is probably about double what it was when that old schoolhouse was built almost 100 years ago.

...Maybe we ought to consider building a new townhall, or maybe adding on and including indoor plumbing and handicapped accessible... one of the residents at the meeting thought we were out of our minds... "It was good enough for all those that came before us, I don't know why it can't be good enough for us now!"
